NO. MORE. PRO-STYLE. SIGNAL. CALLER. POCKET.PASSING QB’s!!! The team does not need to become to next heavy air raid offense in the north pac 12 division! The beavs best strength is what has always been the Run game. We don’t half to be exactly one dimensional like Stanford in the run game, BUT!! We can have a one, two punch on the run game! How? Easy! A DUAL THREAT SCRAMBLE QB, a Marcus Mariota QB if you wanna call it that. I preferred to call it the Kalil Tate QB or the Russel Wilson Type QB. Now y’all may be asking why have a Dual Threat that can’t throw far like a Pocket Passer? Well simple, the Beavs really don’t need to do the deep ball or go heavy on the passing game cuz it rarely ever works out for the Beavs, leave that deep ball stuff to UCLA, Wazzu and USC. All we need is a dual threat QB to make good 30-35 yard passes and to run downfield when our recivers can’t get open, or when our O-Like can’t create holes for the RB or protect the QB. In plain and simply short summary
THE.👏🏻BEAVS.👏🏻 NEED. 👏🏻TO. 👏🏻HAVE.👏🏻 A.👏🏻 QB.👏🏻 LIKE.👏🏻KALIL TATE!! 👏🏻

Hmmm... Beavers have 3 qb in the NFL. I'd say that's pretty good. I don't think they "half" to change per your post.

B2b post but you have to be troll from tsdr. So all we have to do is "get" a qb like the only Heisman winner in U of O history, or Tate from Arizona. Or Russel Wilson? No problem! Why didn't we think of that before? Stupid coaching no doubt! Those guys are a dime a dozen, and better yet, most are dying to go to a winless P12 team! Woo hoo! Rose Bowl bitches!

We've been recruiting dual threat QBs for a couple years now. Hasn't done wonders yet. Garrettson actually meets most of your qualifications. Luton was the only pocket passer brought in the last 3 years, he may be our big hope next year at this point.

Seth Collins was good, Just needed time to develop, Marcus McMarion was great but GA ran him off.. Garretson was supposed to be good, but the injury against Utah last year messed him up really badly.. Blount was a walk on, he was more of a pocket passer than a scrambler. Did good against Boise state though. Luton, eh... I really dunno what to say about him... I favor Garretson over him, so that says something about my opinion of Luton. I recently read a news article that the Beavs have a player named Kaleb Hayes a former QB, HB and WR from high school, they put him at the QB at practice to prep the defense to go against Tate, Kaleb showed of he legs and arm. They say kaleb looked like a second version of Kalil Tate.

Luton, eh... I really dunno what to say about him.... He can heave inaccurate passes further than Garrettson?? He doesn't have a lot of touch on his passes. He throws darts when he should put a little air on them. There are lots of qbs around with good arms, but most of them can't make all of the throws.

Without calling out other players by name, we haven't seen an adequate P5 QB here since Mannion. 3M might have proved to be in that category but never had the chance. Nothing wrong with pocket passers. OSU has had their most success in the last couple of decades with that style of QB. They should be able to make all of the throws though. I haven't seen that from anyone here yet. A certain strong armed QB needs to learn touch, i.e. put a little air on that pass when appropriate. Let those fast guys run under it. Read option QBs are great if you have a few of them to spare to injuries. Even that trophy winner from tsdtr has had numerous injury issues and unless he changes his style probably won't last a long time in the NFL.

It's very easy to see we need to avoid the pure Pro-Style IF we want the greatest chance to win. IF we want to run it like MR as a Pro Development program and have our QB take 2 years to get things figured out and then hope the stars align on the O-line and defense for a great 8 win season then Pro Style all the way. IF we want to win ballgames and entertain then we need to be creative on both sides of the ball. I hate to say this but we can be very stubborn (me included) with how they set things up at UO. An offense that is exciting for both players and fans. An offense that a young QA can thrive, an offense that allows O-line to zone block and not HAVE to make holes in order to have success. A run first offense that sets up the pass. Honestly this is Beau Baldwins team for me, he is a great mind and a perfect fit... But ultimately you are correct. No strict pro style, pocket passer types. We need to learn to play to our strengths and disguise our weaknesses. I love that we have had success putting players in the NFL in the past but id like a smart team that wins games together not a crap season that has a hand full of NFL ready players loathing because we have too many missing parts to get the scheme to work.

According to El Pres from Barstool, all OSU quarterbacks are tall, big armed, immobile, and put up huge numbers against crappy teams. A mobile qb would be nice but I'd rather have one that can actually throw the ball unlike garretson.

Only way to get a guy like Tate is to just stumble onto him just like Arizona did theres no recipe for finding guys like that. McMaryions overrated but we'd definitely have more wins if he was still here. That being said I think if Luton didn't get hurt and he improved as the season went on we would of beat CU, Stanford, and maybe had a closer game against Cal?

His OLine, receivers, running game do help in some way to make him effective. No one player in this game does it alone! All great QBs share a couple things that could be considered somewhat interchangeable in common and that is, intelligence and football IQ. The best QBs I have ever been around, have not been speedsters, not had a monster arm but it has come down to their decision making abilities! Which is due to their football IQ/Intelligence. Go Beavs!
