Agreed - a kid that can pass as well as he runs is a rare commodity, but if you have a good set of running backs to offset a good passer, that is an easier combination to put together. Nall and Pierce with any of our recent quarterbacks pre GA era would work great. And we had some great running backs to go with them already.

I am amazed by some of the responses here.
Tom Brady is a pocket passer, would we pass on him because he doesn't meet the qualification as "dual threat". When I look at programs that truly have their QB run the ball 10 or more times, they take a huge risk. All the rules now have a huge favorable bias built in for passing the football. QB reps are usually divided 70% 25% 5% even in the pros. In college, with the limited practice time that 2nd or 3rd stringer just does not have the reps to be as effective as the 1st stringer. Just look to the tsdr. Herbert goes down and the next one up is severely limited. Even elite teams struggle with back-up QB's.
3M had some limitations. For the last few games, our packages that we put in worked around them. We were fortunate that they were not exposed in our final two games last year. Yes 3M is doing very good for Fresno. He has the best college QB coach in Tedford helping him. I believe Tedford coached Aaron Rodgers when he was at CAL.

NO. MORE. PRO-STYLE. SIGNAL. CALLER. POCKET.PASSING QBโs!!! The team does not need to become to next heavy air raid offense in the north pac 12 division! The beavs best strength is what has always been the Run game. We donโt half to be exactly one dimensional like Stanford in the run game, BUT!! We can have a one, two punch on the run game! How? Easy! A DUAL THREAT SCRAMBLE QB, a Marcus Mariota QB if you wanna call it that. I preferred to call it the Kalil Tate QB or the Russel Wilson Type QB. Now yโall may be asking why have a Dual Threat that canโt throw far like a Pocket Passer? Well simple, the Beavs really donโt need to do the deep ball or go heavy on the passing game cuz it rarely ever works out for the Beavs, leave that deep ball stuff to UCLA, Wazzu and USC. All we need is a dual threat QB to make good 30-35 yard passes and to run downfield when our recivers canโt get open, or when our O-Like canโt create holes for the RB or protect the QB. In plain and simply short summary THE.๐๐ปBEAVS.๐๐ป NEED. ๐๐ปTO. ๐๐ปHAVE.๐๐ป A.๐๐ป QB.๐๐ป LIKE.๐๐ปKALIL TATE!! ๐๐ป . A slight whiff of sarcasm detected here

With the Dynamic Duo of Nall, Tyner, and Pierce in the backfield, we really don't need our QB to be running the ball at all. Play action with a guy who can sling it should do the trick

There is a couple things I learned from the Riley era at OSU. 1. I HATE pro-style offenses, they're really predictable. 2. Dual Threat scramble QB's are the future of College Football. 3. Jaylen Hurd(bama), Kalil Tate(Ariz), Lamar Jackson(Louisville), Josh Jackson (VT), Kelly Bryant(Clem), Eric Dungey(Syracuse), Montell Cozart(Boise St) <---all Dual threat scrambling QB's that make a HUGE impact on offense to help their team win. Oh, they're also all not hurt either ๐

The other guys, what chance do you think Oregon State has of signing any of them? 2%? Less?

Oh, they're also all not hurt either ๐ Jared Goff, Sean Mannion, Jake Browning, Mason Rudolph.....all pro style QBs who made or make a huge impact on their offense to help their teams win. If you mean predictable in that it was most likely going to be a pass, then sure. But there were guys open all over the field regularly. When we had a QB who could quickly go through progressions (Typically an upperclassman pro style guy), the offense was not the problem with OSU football. I love your passion man, I just disagree with you.

And I wasn't talking bout the beavs signing any of those guys.. I put em there to show how great they are and how much they help their team score on offense.
