There are some obvious weights, but I'd be interested in hearing predictions from those of you that are more informed than me.

alright alright, I'll play! Here is my wild guess:
125: Bresser Excited to see where he's at this year. 133: Turner 141: Hathaway 149: Mode I think we're going to be pleasantly surprised here. 157: Willits Think it's his spot to lose... 165: Williams? Honestly have no idea, think it's wide open really, but he seems to be the incumbent. 174: Doyle Should be a step above Coleman.. 184: McLeod Showed some promise last year and IIRC was a mid-year transfer so maybe he makes a leap. 197: Griego Hwt: Dhesi Welcome back big fella!
165 really is the complete unknown IMO. Williams started quite a bit but had a pretty rough go of it (4-17 record), don't know yet what Bigelow or Olmos bring to the table. Meeker should be in the mix as well.

Thanks for your thoughts! That's in line with what I was thinking. 125, 133, 141, 197 and Hwt should be pretty well set. The biggest question marks to me (and I'm no expert on this group) are at 149 and 165.

The biggest question marks to me (and I'm no expert on this group) are at 149 and 165. I should mention that Mode wrestled exclusively at 41 last year for CCC, but I know the roster has him listed 41/49, so I've got him bumping up and JH staying @ 141. I know we've had a couple of recent defections at 41/49 as well - kids going to EOU and SOU that I'm assuming saw the writing on the wall in terms of mat time, so maybe that's a good signal in terms of Mode being able to step in right away. 57 is probably still a question mark. Willits has the credentials, but it's still a leap going from HS to college.

Crawford seems like too good a wrestler to not wrestle varsity his senior year. Is he thinking he is red-shirting?

Yes, I think 197 is long gone - and judging from the picture and seeing him up close in July, he looked at least 50 pounds away. He did miss weight last fall before they finally pulled the plug on 197 and then bumped him up to heavy for the remainder of the year. Probably even harder now because he tried to pack on more weight the 2nd half of last season to hang with the other heavies... I guess in the meantime, if Dhesi isn't 100% from the ACL injury, you can take your time bringing him back and we know we are in really good hands.

I know that this may be completely unrealistic in ways, but this is what I think would be the ideal line up (no,I do not know better than the coaches and I am aware that some of these weights are probably not possible): 125-Bresser 133-Calkins (moving up)/Turner/Willits --Do not know which would perform the best except that I doubt Willits would be ready to be the best option. 141-Hathaway. --To me there is an outside chance he goes 149, but I do not think this would be best for him. 149-Rich. I do not remember anything about Wall at this time. I am a little pessimistic that Mode can handle moving up a weight and to D1 while performing satisfactorily, yet. 157- Williams. I felt he looked a little undersized at times last year. Maybe he can have better results at this weight. I would sure like to see Willits redshirt as I am not sure he is ready. Olmos is a question mark to me. 165-Take a look at the roster and guess any of the 5 at this weight and you could be right. Meeker/Williams are the front runners, to me. 174-McLeod/Doyle. If McLeod can somehow get to this weight then it could really benefit him and the team, he would be my first choice. McLeod is very thick, but he is also listed at 5'10". 184-Griego/McLeod --If Griego can get to this weight I believe he will be more successful, that is unless he is sucking too much weight. 197-Henry --I think Henry has a lot of potential. I think his main problem at heavyweight is size differential. This weight I think would be ideal if he can get there. This also allows Henry to be a starter as a senior. 285-Dhesi --Crawford is a good backup plan, but it is obvious that Dhesi is better and will be the starter. At this point I am almost certain that Crawford would have to cut more weight than Dhesi to get to 197. This is one weight change that I am certain will not happen.
*The current roster is 28. Usually it is a little above 30 at this point and will get to almost 40 by season start when the walkons are added. This a little concerning. Depth is an issue right now to me.
*Currently based on the roster the coaches did a really good job of identifying junior college wrestlers that could qualify and getting them there. This has been an issue in the past as many did not make it on campus.
*I am trying to find signs of Zalesky turning the corner to consistently fielding a top 10 team. I just do not see very many signs of that right now. The biggest positive I see for the coming season is there is a very good chance of this team having 2 all americans which has not happened for quite a while.
*What is up with the coaching staff right now? We have 1 assistant coach (Meeks) with 2 volunteer assistant coaches (Miller and Palmer). I have never seen the staff listed this way. I would be interested to know. Why is there not a 2nd assistant coach listed? Is the roster wrong, again? Are they currently searching for another coach?

Henry is done..he will be involved with the program, but not competing. Sad because I liked to see him out there (Open Tournaments) He got after it, and with a purpose.
Ian Miller is a paid assistant now. He has an 'interim' tag though per an update by Z. Probably not updated online yet. Palmer is the Vol. Assistant.
Mark down Monday Nov 6th on your calendar for the wrestle offs. Will get some answers to some of the above Q's. I think the real predictor will be who heads back east and wrestles in their first road trip. Go Beavs!

With Henry done (thanks for the information) it does not benefit the team at all with my idea of Griego and McLeod moving down. So I guess you can scratch that idea.

Not sure we can consistently field a top 10 type team until we can get some freshmen who are good enough to compete for varsity spots from day 1. ASU showed what a year or two of Recruiting can do.

Absolutely! Not only that, but I'm feeling more and more like we are losing out on quality in-state kids. Roseburg had 3 kids from last year's team who are now at Michigan, Oklahoma State and Stanford respectively. Now they may not be the impact freshman type that you are alluding to, but if you're good enough to wrestle at OK State or Michigan...

That tells me Z has done all he can here, and it may be time to start looking for another coach. Oregon and Washington still produce talent good enough to keep us in the top 10, but we ain't landing many of the big fish.
