I suppose I hadn't been paying much attention over there, but Taggart is also moving them 3-4, and running a true freshman nose guard to boot.
It will be interesting to see what kind of success they have. Oregon set the bare pretty low last year in defense (like us...) are they going to be better? worse? will a team with arguable top to bottom better talent (stars wise) have more success running a 3-4.
I am at least mildly curious.

I am at least mildly curious. It's CU's defense with sdtr players. CU allowed 41 points to UW last year in a 41-10 loss. Unfortunately they held us to 6. Rather telling isn't it? As much as they claim UW is their rival, this hiring puts a bright spotlight on what their true feelings are. They hired a DC who can't stop UW but can stop us.

They hired a DC under fire for his involvement in the abuse case at Colorado and the supposed cover up.. and who is quite familiar to WT as he was the 1st coach at SFlorida for 12 years. Tongue in cheek? But, they are very familiar with each other and spoke in unison at several clinics in the past.

You don't honestly believe their athletic leadership made us the target when hiring a coaching staff do you?

Look up Colorado football scandals... but here is a "quickie", but not the most complete in terms of all the coaches/employees involved. Actually old news now... how Mac kept his job is beyond me... winning is everything to some. www.si.com/college-football/2017/08/10/mike-macintyre-colorado-joe-tumpkin-domestic-abuseBuffs have actually been part of quite a few sex/recruiting/etc scandals sine 1997... amazingly they do not get a lot of heat for it.

Pretty sure Leavitt had nothing to do with the CU drama. that was with another coach, Joe Thumpkin and his domestic violence against his girlfriend. MacIntyre and the AD was reprimanded and the president of CU was suspended for a few days. As far as I know, the girlfriend told MacIntyre about the assault. not Leavitt. that is why he got in trouble. I have never heard Leavitt's name ever involved with anything about that. Now, of course Leavitt was fired from South Florida for allegedly hitting a player at halftime. It should be noted Leavitt did get a $2.75 million wrongful termination suit in his favor after that ordeal.

Yeah, no denying Mac should be thanking his lucky stars. but the allegation made by OP on this one was Leavitt was under fire. I have never seen anywhere that he was involved.

Mac and Prez took the heat, but I think he, the OC and DC were all informed... together or by Mac and there was failure to report issues. Leavitt was not on any "hot" seat that I know, but he has had "other" issues, one you mentioned. He was a hard sell to some Oregon boosters who have been very unhappy with the handling of the Altman situation. However, those with a conscience down south are not in the majority

Regardless of his character, he is good at his job. I am interested to see what transpires at Oregon on defense... they were cover-your-eyes-awful last year. worse than us even, who was just Cringe-at-ever-snap-awful.

Hasn't UO been running a 3-4 other than the Hoke year? Seems to me Armstead, Jordan, and Buckner were all 3-4 DEs

They always had a somewhat unique defense. but in their real good years with Kelly and Alliota, and with Nagata at nose, they were a 3-4, yes. Recently they had been a 4-3 for a couple years.
