Hasn't UO been running a 3-4 other than the Hoke year? Seems to me Armstead, Jordan, and Buckner were all 3-4 DEs They were only not running a 3-4 for 1 year under Hoke. They've been 3 man front for years now.

Pretty sure Leavitt had nothing to do with the CU drama. that was with another coach, Joe Thumpkin and his domestic violence against his girlfriend. MacIntyre and the AD was reprimanded and the president of CU was suspended for a few days. As far as I know, the girlfriend told MacIntyre about the assault. not Leavitt. that is why he got in trouble. I have never heard Leavitt's name ever involved with anything about that. Now, of course Leavitt was fired from South Florida for allegedly hitting a player at halftime. It should be noted Leavitt did get a $2.75 million wrongful termination suit in his favor after that ordeal. Mac and Prez took the heat, but I think he, the OC and DC were all informed... together or by Mac and there was failure to report issues. Leavitt was not on any "hot" seat that I know, but he has had "other" issues, one you mentioned. He was a hard sell to some Oregon boosters who have been very unhappy with the handling of the Altman situation. However, those with a conscience down south are not in the majority "Mac and Prez took the heat, but I think he, the OC and DC were all informed ..." Seriously. What you THINK is true is not what was reported anywhere that I have found. You can cast doubt on the Leavitt hire for a whatever reasons you choose, but maybe stick to the simple known facts (e.g. hitting a player, and Mike-Stoops-like demeanor on the sideline while Head Coach at South Florida). Making stuff up to tie Leavitt to the assistant coach issue that preceded the assistant coach arrival at Colorado is silly. Coach McIntyre appears to be a pretty straight shooter (the reprimand not-withstanding), and he found a way to give Leavitt a second chance. The Leavitt hire at Oregon might have been a bit more suspect if Leavitt had not been in another college program for 3 years before Willie Taggart hired him. Oregon ran their version of the 3-4 since before Chip took over. It wasn't a 3-4 at all times in all defensive assignments and personnel, but it was true to that set probably 40% of the snaps from about 2007 until Brady Hoke took over. Hoke installed 4-3 defense for one season - 2016 - with disastrous results. Techniques, calls, responsibilities - all the changes delivered a confused and out of position defense.

RE: Jim Leavitt. On January 8, 2010, Leavitt was fired after an investigation by USF officials found that he had struck a player in the locker room during halftime of a game against Louisville the previous November 21. Leavitt claimed he was merely trying to console the player and never struck him. School officials found that Leavitt was not truthful about what happened, and also found that he had interfered with the investigation. ESPN's Ivan Maisel reported that Leavitt's interference, which included telling several players and coaches to change their stories, was the biggest factor in the decision to fire him. The Tampa Tribune reported that school president Judy Genshaft and athletic director Doug Woolard felt they had no choice but to fire Leavitt after he refused to admit he had done anything wrong.
On January 2011, a settlement of $2.75 million was reached between USF and Jim Leavitt. The settlement includes $2 million for "salary and benefits" as well as a payment of $750,000 "acknowledging Coach Leavitt's contributions to building USF's nationally respected football program."
Not a bad living. Punch a kid, lie, coerce teammates and coaches to lie about what happened, and then walk away with $2.75 Mil. Sounds like a swell guy!
