The Media Guide has plenty of mistakes. Another one I've noticed before:
In the QB-WR TD combinations, #4 is DA to Hass with 14. Tied for #12 is Moore to Hass with 7.
In the Most Receiving Touchdowns category, Mike Hass is currently tied for second with 20.

In the Most Receiving Touchdowns category, Mike Hass is currently tied for second with 20. Hass only had six TD receptions in 2005, so Moore realistically could have only thrown six. Moore-to-Hass should fall off that list...........

(he asks, knowing that wilkyisdashiznit will have the answer via Wilkipedia shortly) Glove, please to be changing Wilky's custom tagline to "Unofficial Historian" ok OA, you are a great X and O guy. You and ATown know your stuff, there is no doubt. However, if you want to become the Official Historian, go ahead and draft up the 1941 Oregon State Beavers football team on Wikipedia. I already did ones for 1962, 1964, 1967, 1985, and 1988. And what is there for 1941 is mostly all my work. I know a lot of Oregon State history but little of it is from Wikipedia. (If I didn't put it there, I wouldn't trust it anyway.........) As for All-Americans, Oregon State has had two unanimous All-Americans, Terry Baker and John Didion. As an aside, John Didion is usually referred to as a consensus selection in the Oregon State material, but he was chosen by all six official selectors in 1968, so he should be unanimous. The Media Guide mentions him as first team in all six. Sports-Reference correctly refers to him as a unanimous selection. Oregon State and the Media Guide are wrong to conclude that he is not a unanimous All-American. Is anyone in touch with our Media Guide people? I used to be but have not been since I corrected some of the 1962 stuff....... Oregon State has had four consensus All-Americans: John Witte, Vern Burke, Jordan Poyer, and Brandin Cooks. The only one that no one has mentioned is John Witte, a tackle on the 1957 Rose Bowl team. Witte was a Korean War veteran, missing the 1953 and 1954 seasons, as a result. Witte was also a wrestler, finishing second in the nation in 1951. Witte played one year of football for a bad Saskatchewan team before becoming a professional wrestler. Sporting News was the only major publication not to choose Witte. What is somewhat vexing is that Sporting News has vacillated on and off the list of being an official selector. 12 Greatest Oregon State players of their time:
1. Terry Baker (1960-1962) 2. Joseph "The Gray Ghost" Gray (1935-1937) 3. Ken Carpenter (1946-1949) 4. Brandin Cooks (2011-2013) 5. Bob Dethman (1939-1941) 6. Steven Jackson (2001-2003) 7. Don Samuel (1946-1948) 8. Bill "Earthquake" Enyart (1966-1968) 9. Eberle "Elbie" Schultz (1937-1939) 10. Bob Grim (1964-1966) 11. Nick Barnett (1999-2002) 12. Lloyd Wickett (1940-1942)
The problem is that most of the selectors were really skewed against west coast teams in general and the northwest in particular prior to the mid-50s. Once television got to be a bigger deal, there was less of a skew against Oregon State. Still, a guy like Witte, despite the fact that he was a true American hero and great human being, probably should have been a second-team All-American, at best.I have 5 points to make: A) When I made the historian crack, I didn't realize that you already were bestowed with the "OFFICIAL historian" title lol 2) I do not want to become the official historian D) I would like to point out that it was not a typo when I said "wiLkipedia" instead of "wikipedia"

Pac-12 Network ran a list of the "12 Greatest" players in OSU history: 12. Derek Anderson 11. Steven Paea 10. James Rodgers 9 John Didion 8. Jacquizz Rodgers 7. Jess Lewis 6. Mike Hass 5. Brandin Cooks 4. Ken Simonton 3. Bill Enyart 2. Steven Jackson 1. Terry Baker No surprise on the first two. Paea making the list kind of surprised me. There have been better defensive players in my opinion...not stronger, but definitely better. Thinking of defensive linemen, Tuaolo was a monster NT. One of the opposing coaches raved about how he'd never seen a guy line up over the center and then drop into coverage. Tuaolo should be on this list above Simonton, Lewis, the Rodgers, Paea, and Anderson in my opinion. Tuaolo was probably the best defensive lineman in Oregon State history.

Like D Grant, Swancutt, Barnett, Weathersby. That was off the top of my head. I'd add James Allen, Jordan Poyer, Trent Bray, and Keith Ellison Trent Bray should not be on that list. Allen, Poyer, and Ellison were good but none were as good as Paea.

I noticed that your list is the "12 Greatest Oregon State players of their time". So, for instance, you only have Brandin Cooks in the 20-teens and only have Nick Barnett from the turn of the millennium, etc. Maybe you already did this and I missed it, but what would be your list of the 12 Greatest OSU players of all time?

Serious, very serious omission
Dwan Edwards
I will never forget the Temple game - the offensive lineman blocking him decided to pull him down by the facemask, which the refs didn't catch. Next play, Dwan literally lifts him up and throws him about three yards in the air, and stuffs the running back 4 yards in the backfield. Not a guy to mess with, and one of the best ever at OSU.

Not sure he's a 12 greatest at least on my list - but I really liked him. Lasted 12 years in the NFL and ended his career in the super bowl. Pretty awesome. billingsgazette.com/sports/one-year-removed-from-nfl-dwan-edwards-relishes-time-off/article_459dae5e-dfa1-5067-9b52-e7b26d2e8772.html

The Manning-Edwards pairing at DT was one of the best two-fer DT combos we have ever had. I am struggling to think of a better pair.

Craig Hanneman should be #1 in his own category for accomplishments nonpareil. Great college career. At least several years in the nfl and climbing freaking Mt Everest in his sixties. That is an amazing feat at that age. My hat's off to him.

I'd put Quizz higher than Simonton. Never even heard of Didion so therefore he doesn't belong on the list (no offense John). John Didion was the center for one of the greatest teams, maybe the greatest team in OSU football history. He was a stellar All American and a high NFL draft choice if memory serves me. Only "youngins" have no clue on Didion!
