It has been pretty quiet since the non-signing of Drew?
Any word on if he has been granted FA? or coming back to anchor the best team in College Baseball in 2018?

Funny you should ask, as Kendall Rogers tweeted about it this AM.
Kendall RogersVerified account @kendallrogersd1 18m18 minutes ago .@beaverbaseball RHP Drew Rasmussen will not be granted free agency by @mlb. Decision is final from Major League Baseball. Rasmussen will return to #OregonState for another year, but his availability is TBD given what his latest MRI showed. We’ll see what happens

Reading between the lines here... sounds like Drew may have done some damage to his surgically repaired elbow or have some new issues... maybe a set back in recovery ?
Just guessing but I sure hope not.

Something caused the Rays to back away from 95-97, and a filthy slider. Those don't grow on trees. Hope it wasn't caused by a too early return.

No one can ever know, but his coming back to pitch couldn't have helped whatever the MRI showed.
IMHO... as I stated before the season really got rolling, Razz was never going to be healthy enough to be a difference maker for OSU this season. It was just too soon.
The same scout/ bud that gave me info early basically called it. His rehab "info" just didn't jibe with a guy ready to go any significant innings. And, if not, why pitch at all. If he was allowed to pitch he'd cost himself high 6 figures or more and cost himself maybe another surgery/season... or at least a significant rehab.
The Rays pick was a money ploy. Sign a rehab/project that may be a steal for low round $ AND redistribute $ elsewhere. Or, the pick is a bust and they get it next year.
Will never know, but if his goal was to sign Razz should have never stepped on the field this Spring. I think the extreme success and Luke's situation confused the issue somewhat.
My bud's current opinion... if Razz doesn't need surgery and pitches close to form for OSU in 2018 he'll get drafted about where he should have this year... late 3rd/4th round.

That is a guideline. There have been players who have come back earlier than that and haven't had any problems. If there was issues of Rasmussen coming back too soon I find it hard to believe Casey and Yeskie would allow him to pitch. That and the doctors gave him the go ahead to throw with limited pitches. In the end, we may never know if there was an issue or not. Although we will find out in the fall if there was a setback when fall ball starts. If he isn't pitching or is limited then that will tells us there may be an issue.

So, it eas there and he threw despite it, or throwing too soon caused it. Also, there is something missing in this story. No Dr I've ever dealt with or heard of recommends throwing anything but light 40' flat work until the 12/13th month. I have no idea the situation or who said/did what but there was no way Drew should have been doing mound work as early as he did. What is unknown and we'll find out eventually is the extent of the issue.

I have come to enjoy and respect the comments on this board. In this case however it just seems inappropriate to speculate on problems with Drew's medical condition when by law unless he wants to disclose any of it to us, we have no right to know. The inference that Drew or the coaching staff was reckless in his rehab is counter to what I saw on the field the last month of the season.

I've heard info that his MRI was fine, and this is more of a technicality of how and when he submitted his MRI to the Rays.

That tells me he may have returned too early. It would explain his absence v. LSU.

It was a gut feeling that Casey went with Fehmel. His reasons were stated in the post game loss.

He was on a pitch count limit cause he still had to build his strength and endurance backup. This is typical for any pitcher coming of an injury. You just don't see it in the big leagues cause guys make rehab starts in the minors where start small and workup. And he wasn't absent against LSU. He pitched 4 innings.

Its reckless and in fact pointless to speculate on anything associated with this matter. Unless you are named "Drew", Pat, Nate, Drew's doctor, or Tampa Bay's management/doctor you are shooting in the dark.

And... since when are not most post on here "shooting in the dark"? LOL But, clearly Drew was/is NOT healthy... so I'm pretty confident that his rehab had a setback and/or is still in progress. No dark shooting here... unless it's some Glenmorangie Signet nightcaps.
