Greatest EVER is opinion... no way can it be earned.
The different eras of college ball are way too different to even compare. Teams use to stockpile studs with 40+ to unlimited schollies... but, they also faced teams with similar lineups. SC's domination alone is absolutely ridiculous, let alone 40 or 44 consecutive years in the post season like Miami or FSU. Teams today face teams with very limited ability to build stocked rosters, hence face some inferior competition when facing upper echelon teams compared to the past.
IF this team brings home the hardware they'll be the greatest TEAM of the "11.7 scholarship" era...
I thought the 73-14 Wichita St team was fantastic and so exciting at 12 runs per game... yet not a title to go with it.

No...when you factor in the level of skill across the board of today's highly specialized athlete and the training regimens they submit to, I think it absolutely stands to reason that this team, if it brings home the hardware, while losing one game or less, will be inarguably the greatest team of all time.
At the very least, they will statistically be the best there ever was. That cannot be argued.

Add a trophy they are in the conversation, but again there is no defining criteria with how college baseball has changed. This team in no way compares, specialized or not, to the talent or some of the greatest teams ever. Beleive me, the guys from the past were as highly "specialized" as any today. And since you brought up athletes you are talking individuals, not team. We have 20/20 hindsight in their instances that show some teams didn't just have draft choices but multiple highly successful MLB players on the same team. This team will not... sorry to say. Not even supposed sure fire high draft picks are a sure thing to even play at the MLB level let alone be highly successful. OSU under PC has been and will always be about "team" not a bunch of highly regarded MLB prospects. Have some gone on (maybe on the way) to MLB careers? Yep. But, over PC's tenure we can not toss out a list of names that even remotely compare to those at some schools with successful NC teams. It is just that factor that separates OSU from some of the blue bloods in Omaha... we come as underrated because we typically do not have that national known high draft pick group of studs (bias... I think so). Teams usually beat a group of individuals... and molding a group of young men is what makes PC special. But, there are a few coaches that have done the same with 10 top notch MLB types too.

When you lose only four games in a baseball season, you did something very special. OSU can do what Golden State failed to do thanks to Game 4 of the NBA Finals, win out in the postseason and have the best season winning percentage of all time.
Beaver execution in the field, Beaver pitching on the mound, Beaver hitting being balanced, these qualities are why this team is where it is. The talent is not too shabby either!

I believe the point was made of it being the greatest college baseball TEAM. Why or how does it matter what stars or big leaguers it had? Those are individuals and not the team. I agree, if we win it all, we would likely have earned that title. Just as has been proclaimed by several sports writers. Amazing, especially for a northern program. An obscure program 13 years ago. Absolutely amazing!

LOL--The weirdest one I ever saw was a guy whose routine required him to put on his socks before he put on his jock. Whatever helps you get through the night, I guess.

Here's my simplistic view of the "greatest team in college baseball history" potential debate:
What's the common goal of all college baseball teams? How many MLB all-stars eventually come out of the team? Nope. How many pairs of Jockey underwear are sold in the future by the players on the team? Ehh probably not. The most common goal of all college baseball teams is simply winning. If this year's Beavers win it all and do it without losing more than one game, they will have bested every single college baseball team in history. They will have beaten every single team that they played this year and they will have won the college baseball championship. Lastly, they will have performed winning at a rate that no other college baseball team has ever achieved.
If the measure of the "greatest college baseball team of all time" is winning and the rest of the season plays out in the Beaver's favor, this team is the greatest college baseball team in history.

It's not a foregone conclusion yet though. Still need to beat LSU to even get to the title matchup. Is it possible? Yes. Are we likely to be the favorite in any game played from here out? You bet. Still gotta win. Still gotta get there, and still gotta beat whoever meets us there.
It isn't over. Not yet, and all the teams still standing are Top 6 seeds. Most loaded field ever. But we can do it.
Three to go. Believe.

Absolutely amazing! I believe the "point" can be interpreted in several ways. I covered two... W/L record and talent. Obviously this team has a record I can confidently state will NEVER be broken. But, has yet to win a championship. To assume it will just because of 56-4 is short sighted and lacking respect for both the game and potential opponents (which seems weird since many in here whine about the lack of respect). In a far earlier thread I've presented facts (for the stats hounds) on why I believe the 2006 team to be the most talented group in OSU baseball history... and National Champs. Championship included this team will be the most successful team... realistically... possible I college baseball. But, in terms of pure talent no. Splitting hairs... maybe. But, the point is... there is no such thing as "the greatest team ever"! It's a never ending circular argument of interpretation and opinion.

Agree however pitching is the single most important position and there's 3-4 potential major leaguers in this team. Also 2 position players (maybe 3) all up the middle and a hitter That's talent in the right spots

Lets look at one of the top teams all time, 1975 Texas who won it going 56-6. They played zero top 25 teams leading up to the post season. They had 4 game series vs Sam Houston State, lubbock Christian, Plano and University of Dallas. They played 3 game series vs SW louisiana and 2 game series vs St. Marys, Texas Lutheran and Lamar. They had 42 home games and 12 away games in the regular season. Which other teams in history that at least made it to the CWS should we be considering for the greatest of all time?? www.sportsonearth.com/article/236840366/best-college-baseball-teams-history

The ACC Champion, the SEC Champion, the SEC regular season champion, and the SEC regular season co-champion and conference tournament co-champion. 2011 was the first year of the new bats, as well as the first year of TD Ameritrade. The games were generally low-scoring and dull.
