Anybody have the actual Roster for the Regional? Gambrell left off? Tommy Paul? After watching Vandy Play, those kids hit! Soo, it boils down to Pitching (Always) and if we can hit. Wow.... I am really smart! LOL Vandy will present a challenge, but not a challenge in the sense of climbing a mountain. More like a challenge of waiting in line at the DMV until the beavs put them away. You know it will happen but your patience will be tested. Meh. What is Oregon State's record against teams in Super Regionals? 0-0. Vanderbilt beat Florida and Kentucky once and Texas A&M twice. I would not sleep on Vanderbilt. I have seen polls that have Vanderbilt as high as number five. It is quite possible that Vanderbilt is the best team that Oregon State has played all year. All of the other polls that I have seen have Vanderbilt in the 18-22 range. One poll that I saw had UCLA ranked 12th (30-27 against the 3rd-best schedule). If you eliminate that poll, the only team that Oregon State has played so far that is comparable to Vanderbilt is Stanford. Oregon State swept Stanford at Sunken Diamond 3-1, 15-7, and 7-0. Oregon State took two-of-three against UCLA at Jackie Robinson Stadium 4-2, 1-7, and 2-1 but were outscored in the process 7-10. Besides Stanford and UCLA, the other teams that present comparable matchup problems (but who are not as talented as Vanderbilt) are Washington, USC, and Nebraska. The Results: @washington: 2-3 (Heimlich's only loss), 5-2, and 3-0. USC: 3-1, 5-7 (only home loss), and 10-1. Nebraska: 10-1 and 5-2. Oregon State went 11-3 (.786) against those five teams and 41-1 (.976)--the loss being the three-error fiasco against Ohio State--against everyone else. This is one of those series that Vanderbilt might be the favorite in Nashville. I am glad that this game is being played in Corvallis. Boyd's World has Oregon State with an 85% chance of winning the series. I personally think that that number is preposterously high.

I should also add that freshman pitcher Donny Everett drowned last year, the day before the 2016 NCAA Baseball Tournament began in the presence of multiple Vanderbilt teammates. I get the feeling that the Commodores are going to come out very motivated.

I think it's a snarky, but fun look - after all the writer talks about the pitching matchup, and balls don't carry here like Vandy's usual ball parks so I am not sure their long ball thing is as big a difference as he makes it, but in the end chicks dig winners. And the Beavs are winners! Vandy bombing Goss is not much of a gameplan. Like you said, Nobody has ever turned Goss into a bandbox that i can recall. That westerly wind coming in over left field ruins that idea. And their pitching can't be much better than some of the good pitching the beavs have chewed up this year. Canning, Peterson all had a good cry when they tried to navigate the beavs lineup. Beavs just need to play their game. And they will. Bandbox. Great word! Hawkins Field has a short porch in left, 310 feet. Otherwise, the stadiums are comparable in size. Doug Kingsmore Stadium, where Clemson plays is similar. Short porch in left, 320 feet, but otherwise comparable to the other two. The Hoover Met is built to be similar to TD Ameritrade Park, 405 to center, 385 to the power alleys, and 340 down the lines. Nashville's altitude is 597 feet above sea level, whereas Corvallis is 235 feet above sea level. Clemson's elevation is 725 feet above sea level. Hoover is 545 feet above sea level. Vanderbilt's Connor Kaiser homered in Hoover but no one else did. (Will Toffey hit a three-run double off the of the wall in right-center, though.) Toffey hit two home runs in Clemson. Seth Beer hit another. No one else did. Hawkins Field is oriented more traditionally than Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Doug Kingsmore Stadium is oriented with home plate NNE of center field. The Hoover Met is oriented the most traditional of all of the parks with home plate being positioned to the southwest of center field. I am hoping that the orientation of Goss Stadium at Coleman Field causes problems in the outfield. I also hope that the cold, driving showers keeps helps to keep the balls in play. (And I also hope that there are no delays for the pitchers' sakes.)

So I agree... snarky at best.
It is also not so accurate.... Jake is the Saturday guy and Luke is the Friday guy (except last weekend in the Regional). Maybe Casey will keep it like last weekend, but I wouldn't try to predict that. But even the ERAs tell you the reality. No mention of our bullpen ? That is deep and good as well. We have so many good pitchers we can't get them all the innings they deserve because the starters chew up so many innings.
Madrigal has played 2b more than SS.... but listing him as a SS/2b or middle infielder would be more accurate than SS.
I also think he discounts our depth. Nick is the Pac 12 POY but there are some other offensive weapons in that lineup. I'd argue that all 9 Casey chooses to start are a legit threat to be the reason we win the game.
The best news is we get to settle this on the field.
Go BEAVS!

"Why is Casey not a nationally recognizable name? I honestly don’t know. People recognize Dave Serrano’s name, and he sucks ass."

The weather should improve as the weekend goes along.

The Beavs will get it done!
BUT, Vandy is on a roll. They can crush the ball. Also, their friday starter is projected a top 5 pick?
If the Beaver starters give up a few runs or more per game, I think the Beaver small ball O cannot keep up with Vandy's O. Vandy is definitely peaking at the right time. Vandy is a scary opponent, but, what do you expect? It's the supers.
In Pat Casey I trust. So, I am predicting the Beaver pitchers to just dominate. So, I'll see you in Omaha!

Of the draft eligible players, Baseball America ranks Kyle Wright as the best right-hander in the college ranks. Jeren Kendall is the best outfielder in the college ranks. Will Toffey is the 6th-best third baseman. Reed Hayes is the 35th-best right-hander in the college ranks. Hayes also plays outfield, when he's not pitching. Luke Heimlich is the 4th-best left-hander. KJ Harrison is the 4th-best first baseman. Jake Thompson is the 11th-best right-hander. Drew Rasmussen is the 16th-best right-hander.

Some meaningless numbers.
Vandy is 2-5 in weekend series vs teams with a top 50 ERA. All of those series were decided 2-1 no sweeps. Actually that was the case for their whole season.
The series wins were Home vs Texas A&M Away vs S. Carolina wholost 8 strait series
Losses Home Illinois chicago Away ole miss Away Kentucky Home Florida Away Arkansas

It's really quite simple, if you ask me. We win because we are playing in our house, where we have lost only one game all year, and because we are simply a better team, up and down the line.

And the Beavs are winners! Walks and errors will define this series. I'm betting Vandy commits them and that leads OS victories. yep, our team lives for pressure, and in a way, I feel like we are playing with the house money, since Vandy represents the mighty SEC and they are under the gun to crush us.

That said I respect Vandy in the super represents a real test and I'm dam glad its at home and I'll be DAM happy next week when I'm at my computer watching the beavers in Omaha!!
