High 3's ERA is very good in PAC 12. On the other hand, given the performance of our other 2 weekend starters, Fehmel does strike me as more of a Sunday guy this season....and if Raz comes all the way back, more of a fourth starter. Beavs are fortunate to be so loaded w quality starters. Good recruiting / good coaching.

two earned runs in 5 innings, my you have some very very high standards. 3.60 era is not that high of standard Then... conversely our hitters must REALLY suck nit being able to score more off ERAs of 4+ and 5+ Fehmel is not an impressive pitcher in that he does not over power people or meet the temporary standards of some of our current staff. But, believe it... those crazy low ERAs are temporary. Our staff is pitching well, but they're not a bunch of 1st rounders. But, compare Fehmel's #s over 1.5 years vs everyone's consensus "stud" in Drew, and most would be surprised who is who. Pitching will come back closer to norm it's why the offensive production must improve. And it's really the one area that has not all year.

My guess that Drew's ERA is the higher of the two.

A better measure is vs PAC 12 competition this season. Instead of a QUIZ, here's some revealing numbers: PAC 12 2017 - Thompson 6 starts ERA 0.86; Heimlich 7 starts ERA 1.05; Fehmel 7 starts ERA 4.70. Since each pitcher faces essentially the same lineup, those are pretty valid comparisons. I suspect the discussion about who's who in the OSU starting pitcher rotation will continue until late May or June when Rasmussen joins the rotation.

If Drew ever joins the rotation he'd be in a severely limited count. He would really do no great good as a starter in a 40-60 pitch limit which is what it should be At this early point of his recovery. At least he should be and if someone is looking out for him he will. He's best served in mid relief or in closer role if he can get to the point of recovering from short intense stints. The leaving Mulholland in yesterday tells me Drew is not ready for such a role. Typically recovery time between competitive stints in short relief for TJ is one-three days. Everyone is different but Drew is already on an accelerated pace. They should not be pushing it. On top of that, Drew is not our "savior". We need to consistently be better offensively. And, as mentioned by a few others early in the year, our pitching is not that deep. If you look at the number of innings pitched and how many in key situations we've pretty much rode the "4 horsemen"... three starters and Jake. Fehmel has come back to norm after extensive innings and carrying the staff last year. Thompson is having a great year, as is Luke. But certainly an outlier for them. Jake as a true frosh exceeded any expectations. But, it's baseball all will gravitate more toward the "norm". Fehmel and Jake have. It's essential the offense makes up the ground our pitching may lack.

Point was Fehmel compared to Raz (who everybody seems t think takes Fehmel spot). So comparing Fehmel 17 to Thompson and Heimlich is well, not the point. Nice stats but I probably better placed elsewhere

Agreed 90-110 pitches from Drew is unrealistic and likely abusive. Casey/Yeskie would not do that. A combination of Fehmel w moderately quick hook to bring in Drew might work well in June. Fehmel had eye-popping numbers last year. But as far as "carrying" the staff, hmmmm. He only started 6 games.

I would argue just having guys who've seen the situation in Tweedt, Max, a Hickey puts OS ina better position than most. Health I can't speak to. Gambrel may end up being the most important pitcher on the roster, come tourney time,

He is not a great reliever in terms of leadoff guys were hitting over .500 at one time. Might be higher now.
