Now that we are on the other side of the Washington series:
30-2 is an Oregon State record for best 32-game start to a season. The previous record was 26-6 set by the 1962 team and tied by the 2005 and 2013 College World Series teams. The 1962 lost a road series to Santa Clara in what amounted to a Super Regional to finish 26-6.
The best 37 game start was 30-7 in 2005. Oregon State is thus effectively up five games up on the 2005 team. After starting 26-6, the 2005 season finished 15-3 in the last 18 (road loss to Arizona, home loss to Arizona State, and home loss to USC in the regular season finale) to finish the regular season at 41-9. Oregon State is currently scheduled to play 54 games in 2017, rather than the 50 in 2005. In 2005, Oregon State beat Ohio State and St. John's (twice) in the Corvallis Regional and beat USC in the Corvallis Super Regional to post a 45-9 record after 54 games. In order to better that, the 2017 Beavers would have to go 16-6 over the final 22.

Regardless of Beaver final RPI, it is a near certainty that they'll finish the regular season with a 10-0 record against Top 50 teams...unless a.) somehow *ucks sneak into top 50, and b.) *ucks manages a W against Beavs this weekend.

With a win, the 2017 Oregon State Beavers would surpass the 2013 team's record. Washington posted a 20-4 (.833) record in 1997 in the Pac-10 North. Arizona State posted a 26-4 (.867) record in 1981 in the Pac-10 South. If Oregon State goes 2-1 against Wazzu, they would surpass 1997 Washington and tie 1981 Arizona State. USC went 17-0 in conference in 1971. With a sweep, Oregon State would post the best Pacific 8/10/12 conference record since 1971. |
