Just went digging - for what it's worth, ASU went 64-6 overall in 1972 for a winning pct. of .914 including postseason. They were 58-4 prior to the playoffs, then went 6-2 overall in the postseason, losing to Southern California in the finals to reach their final record. So technically they can still be caught. All things considered though, I'd rather have a banner than catching their winning percentage (can't say both wouldn't be nice though)...

All things considered though, I'd rather have a banner than catching their winning percentage (can't say both wouldn't be nice though)... To put Arizona State's 1972 season in perspective, in 1973, the NCAA divided up into divisions: 1, 2, and 3. Arizona State went 12-1 against teams from what would be Divisions 2 and 3. Arizona State also went 2-0 against then-NAIA teams. The Sun Devils went 24-1 against WAC teams with the only loss being to BYU in Provo. The two other losses were 3-1 to Cornell, who finished second in the Ivy League, and 9-2 to Stanford, who finished third in the Pac-8 South. Arizona State was 56-3 before the three-game WAC championship in Provo. Winning the WAC allowed Arizona State to play Weber State in Mesa for the right to head to the College World Series. Arizona State won both games. The Sun Devils started the tournament 4-0 but tried to and failed to eliminate USC twice to finish second. USC won the College World Series for the third time in a row and fourth time in five years.

42-4 is an Oregon State record for best 46-game start to a season. The previous best 46-game start was 38-8 set by the 2005 team and tied by the 2013 and 2014 teams. The best 51-game start was 42-9, set by the 2005 team and tied by the 2013 team. In order to better 2005's 44-9 record, Oregon State must go 3-4 or better over the final 7. 45-4 is an Oregon State record for best 49-game start to a season. The previous-best 49-game start was 41-8 set by the 2005 team and tied by the 2013 team. Oregon State played 55 regular season games in 2013, going 45-10. 45 is the most regular season wins in Oregon State history. The Beavers must win at least one of the four games against Abilene Christian to set the record. Oregon State now has 54 wins. The Beavers' previous highest win total was 52.
