I don't think you're going to find anyone "In the know" posting on this message board. You'd be surprised who reads and posts at Benny's House. Ed Ray?

jo To be "in the know" to answer that question would require that a person be familiar with how well each individual assistant recruits. I doubt you will find anyone who has such knowledge on this board, as it would require somehow getting a lot of inside information. Also, by asking the question, there seems to be the implication that you think something is wrong with WBB recruiting... that it should be doing better. Is that so? If it is, how do you come to that conclusion? Given that you think Scott has a "great basketball 'mind'", why would you think he would need help from the AD in hiring his assistants? I agree with you that he does have such a mind and, because of that, I gravitate towards trusting his judgement when it comes to hiring. What could an AD do anyway (within the bounds of NCAA regulations)? I don't mean to pick on you for asking the question. I just find it an odd question to ask and am curious as to what is behind it. Steve, He has probably heard the same banter out there at the game two weeks ago. I heard this from a handful of others this last week too. There is a movement out there that some are suggestion that Coach Ruecks natural progression would to become the next mens coach in the making . Hiring a solid assistant on the womens side would be part of that progression in process. The current assistants are not head coach ready yet. This would provide for the best transition plan to find a coach that is ready. It has at least been thrown out there in discussions if coach Tinkle does not turn it around next year to some respectable level. I would like to find out more but doubt they would say anything at this point. Oh good grief. When has this ever been a "natural progression" anywhere? There was also a "movement" suggesting LaVonda was to be the men's coach too. For anyone that believes this, I have a "movement" for you.

I agree. I can't remember a Power 5 women's bball coach ever switching over and coaching the dudes. Maybe at NAIA or Div.III schools that sort of thing happens but I've never heard of it in the big leagues. Can't help but wonder how he'd do though just from a curiosity standpoint. Obviously he knows the game of basketball but dealing with women/girls is very different than men/boys.

I know one in the athletic department whose task is to read the boards and report out at staff meeting. That is the vibes of the fans and ideas out there. They do listen in so to speak

"Please find something productive to do to do with your time." By the way, I'd LOVE to see the meeting minutes with what that staffer "reports out" weekly on BH postings. Maybe we can get them from an FOA request? That would be some hilarious reading.

Obviously Rueck and staff have not been successful in getting every 5 star they have recruited, but they regularly land 5 star recruits. 1 in 2016, 1 in 2017, and 1 committed for 2018. They are getting their fair share.

I do know that parents of former/current athletes and former athletes read and post here.

More importantly... as I do not believe or really care about the "stars"... he gets good to very good players that develop, are coachable, are great people, and fit his style/system. There have only been a couple of recent recruits I've pondered, "why?"

If there is really a 5 star in that class, I'd love to hear the details!!!!

I believe that the OBN benefit of an all sports (or 7 sport or name your number) pass did not apply to WBB this year. Actually it did include WBB this year, but will not include it next year. This was one of my complaints when they called to renew football tickets a couple months ago.

I guess I interpreted the recruiting year wrong as we are now on 2018 in football. Sorry about that.

I was the original poster and want to thank you all for the excellent replies. Perhaps some clarification on my part would be of value.
When I stated that additional assistance from the AD might be of value, I was thinking in terms of providing extra $$$ for maybe an additional assistant coach who would primarily be a recruiter to ensure that the maximum effort was being given to get the recruits that Coach Scott wanted. Also perhaps be used to cover foreign countries for hidden "gems".

Just remember that as lousy as the star ratings are for football, they are a hundred times worse for Womens BB. Top girls rarely play against competition of sufficient quality to really test them, there are very few "analysts" following the sport, JUCOs and foreigners aren't rated at all, and raw athleticism (which is more easily measured) is less important than in men's hoops or football. It's great that Scott is getting 4* and 5* recruits like Corosdale and Goodman, but if in 2018 Scott brought in nothing by 2* girls, my first thought would be that he knows something that Hoopgurlz doesn't.
