I can't prove this but there is way too much cash flowing through Eugene. You can talk facilities and bling. But when a basketball coach with little history of recruiting top flight talent suddenly has top flight talent knocking on the door. The same with the new coach little history of attracting top flight talent but then he comes to Eugene and within a month can have more than their share of top talent making commitments. It goes to the power of NIKE that can attract top basketball teams to Portland for a tourney and can do the same for women's teams in Eugene. But it's more than NIKE and I smell cold hard cash. "I can't prove this ..."
Thank you for posting your analysis based upon speculation that is slightly tainted by your allegiance to the Orange & Black.
Would the 16 team tourney in Portland next November be less questionable if OSU had been invited to participate?
Is it possible that a coach with two decades of coaching experience, and more than a few 20 game winning seasons at Creighton, and quite a few NCAA tourney appearances, could possibly be a good coach? And then after arriving at a mess of a program, take immediate action to find some talent somewhere to fill his roster in his first two seasons ... with transfers and JC players and a few high school kids ... and then lead those kids to success before a barely populated arena ... to actually make his rag-tag team that looked horrible in December somehow find a way to learn to get better by seasons end ... could that guy start to convince a few good players to play for him? is it possible that his ability to mold a team and deliver wins could somehow make him the Pac12 Coach of the Year 3 of the last 4 years - and maybe that might make a recruit look at his program as a good place to play college basketball?
Or does it really have to be that some guy in a black trench coat is bumping into players and recruits at Taylors on campus ... and that after the bump the kid find a wad of cash on the chair at their table?

I read back in the day that Dennis Dixon, ye of 4th string NFL QB fame, had a nice little endorsement deal from Nike during his illustrious playing career. *That* is the type of thing that I think Nike does to help persuade recruits to attend West Springfield CC. "We'll take care of you down the road, don't worry." Must be true if you read it somewhere.
Hadn't heard the "West Springfield CC" tag.
Did you know that OSU is a Nike school? Did you know that Penny Knight has an affinity for OSU? Did you know that Phil has donated to OSU? Did you know that I heard that Phil has a box at Reser, and a box at Goss?
Dennis Dixon did sign with an NFL team. Not many college football players can say that in any given year.
BTW, Oregon has one of the leading Sports Marketing Business degree programs in the country. And the fact that some participants in that program end up working as interns at Nike in Beaverton is a natural connection. So it would not surprise me a bit to learn that a recruit interested in a career in sports might be lured to a school like Oregon for the academic offering in the Sports Marketing Program. Just like a kid interested in Chemical Engineering might be more interested in a scholarship to OSU than to another school.

Oregon has had a reputation for systematically pushing the intent of the rules, or lack thereof, since back in the 90s as well. From banners in New York City to X boxes in every locker to personalized comic books, oregon did a stream of things the NCAA decided were not allowable. Heck, SI did a big article on graft in college recruiting and uo was a featured example www.si.com/more-sports/2008/06/23/recruiting-mainThis last little recruiting scandal was hardly the first trouble uo has been invited in, they were already on a multi-year probation from an earlier issue when the whole Willie episode came up. Even Bellotti was quoted as saying something along the lines of "there's gonna be a lot of new pages in the rule book over this"

I find it amazing that their fans think they were successful because they were good and not because they cheated... Their most successful coach WAS NOT ALLOWED TO COACH COLLEGE FOOTBALL BECAUSE HE CHEATED AT THEIR SCHOOL!

Remember when Buckner tweeted about hanging out with LeBron James in Uncle Phil's box during his OV? A violation that went away as quickly as the tweet was deleted.

Terrible season with embarrassing losses on national t.v. Entire staff fired going into most critical recruiting stretch Mass decommitments following staff firing Wasted time until new staff announced and in place Rocky start with headline generating major screw ups by new staff Yet we're supposed to believe in the matter of weeks in spite all that, the new shorthanded staff (minus fired coach) have made one of the largest climbs up the recruiting rankings without some "serious help"? Too many good recruiters out there competing for the same players to believe the ones from sdtr, who were playing catch up from the start and never recruited great before, are all of a sudden super star recruiters. Unlike 9-10 years ago, almost all big time programs now match or surpass them in uniforms and facilities and have always bested them in stadium size and tradition. So how does one explain the success they've had with all the obstacles in their way and no prior track record of greatness on the recruiting trail with entire seasons to recruit? If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, it probably cheats like a ....... Willie Taggart is using the willie lyles middleman pay out system. Tsdr will cheat to get ahead. They have done it before. Now get this POS thread off our recruiting forum immediately. Glove we dont want to see duk talk here

Glove we dont want to see duk talk here Fire up the speculation and innuendo about cheating ... it appears the Ducks have landed the #2 class in the Pac12 by one measure used for such things. Measured by average star rating it appears the Ducks are 4th or 5th in the Pac12. I don't think Taggert had enough time to work out the details of payouts - so I am pretty sure the cash flowed directly from boosters to secondary runners and then to the uncle (reduced price on a new car), High School Coach (3 payments on his recent home equity loan) or sister of the recruit (cash to her go-fund-me page). I heard the going rate for a 4 star that had offers from other "cash heavy" schools was about $8,000. 5-stars were getting $20K and up.
Or maybe there were no payouts and the Oregon coaching staff simply did a good job of explaining what the school and program have to offer.

Lol. You had me believing you had some inside info until you included that last paragraph.
