Anyone else notice that slick Willie is more interested in chasing big star guys than really nailing any of them down ? The offer list for the 5 star RB is huge and is led by USC. They just won the Rose Bowl, provide a great education and have, arguably, the youngest and best returning QB in the country. Oregon has, well - none of that ! Same is true for the offer to the 4 star DB. He has offers from some great programs with great educations, Alabama at the top of the list, and Taggert throws an offer at him. This guy is a moron ! Hey, slick Willie - invest your time where you may have a shot , instead of promoting your stupidity through the local newspaper.

The old shoot for the moon and you will hit the stars theory?
Now he can tell a recruit, "Hey look that 5 star RB is considering us too... better sign on the dotted line before he does and we take away your offer..."

Seems like this was also Helfrich approach. Shouldn't they be recruiting based on need, Not on 'stars' ? They seem to be wasting valuable time. They need DL and OL and DB's that are tall, fast and rangy with big motors.

Well, I think they need another 4 scholarship punters, 2 undersized long snappers and DB's that are short, slow, and pudgy with bad knees and sports asthma. But what do I know?

You are closer to what I also really feel. They deserve everything that goes wrong.

Don't forget Danthony Thomas was a solid USC commit until he had a one on one with uncle phil and who knows how many "personalized sneakers" and other offerings and then signed with the dark side. Willie by all rumored accounts is all in for taking advantage of any help (wink, wink) he can get to land top recruits. I think he and they are not only up to their old pre-sanction tricks, they've learned how to better go about skirting the law while turning them.

*sigh* - don't we tout one of Gary Andersen's strengths as being unafraid to go after big name recruits?

Like opting for a bag of cash for street agents verses a business check?

*sigh* - don't we tout one of Gary Andersen's strengths as being unafraid to go after big name recruits? Pretty much exactly my thoughts. Nobody's a great recruiter until they actually land them.

I think the only negative thing I've ever said about Andersen is that I don't think he's as accomplished of a coach as Mike Riley. That and he sometimes seems to be a little contradictory and off topic in his answers during press conferences. I've never said we shouldn't have hired him, I've never said that we're not going to get better with him as a coach, and I think I've even complimented his passion and work ethic as admirable qualities. But, you know, if you need to think about me clutching a blanket, crying myself to sleep looking at a framed 8x10 of Mike Riley while sticking pins in my GA voodoo doll, you go right ahead.

One think I've noticed, there are a lot of photos of Willie Taggart with his arms spread wide. There are more out there. It's a self aggrandizing pose, trying to make himself bigger than he is. I don't know how much of a coach he is, but he is confident, that's for sure, probably overly confident. Offering guys who have no intention of coming to Oregon is another part of it.

I find it so funny them just offering players left and right just for headlines. I can't wait to see how s%#t they keep doing under taggert. I love this hire as a beaver fan, Taggert is going to keep them mediocre.

I love this hire as a beaver fan, Taggert is going to keep them mediocre. Not only that, but offering 4/5* kids who are verbally committed somewhere else - and those programs are generally in much better shape at the moment. Now I get that kids change commitments all the time and all's fair in war, but you have to cast an awful wide net to fill out the rest of your class going that route at this stage in the game. I'm sure they'll get a couple kids to flip, but they've got a lot of spots left to fill in this class.
