I've mentioned this before, and I'll mention it again: losing to your ARCH FREAKING RIVAL FOR 7 STRAIGHT YEARS should raise some eyebrows among fans, boosters, coaches, and the administration. Some of those were tough, close losses, but losses nonetheless. The toilet seats were great during that time, but the gap between the two teams was getting wider, not narrowing. I don't have time to do the research, but I can't think of another Big 5 conference rivalry where a head coach lost to an arch rival for 7 straight years without some sort of great reason. You do realize between 2008 and 2014 the ucks worst post season ranking was #11? 4 of those 7 years they were ranked in the top 5. That might be a pretty good reason. Running a clean program vs a rule breaking program might be another. Just sayin'. Maybe I'm freaking weird, but I'm not gonna hold any coach to having to beat those odds. I didn't know the specifics in terms of their ranking. I do hold the Beaver coach accountable for losing to the rival for 7 straight years. I think it's fair for a coach to feel pressure and answer tough questions if this is the case, regardless of who that coach is. Not saying anyone should be fired, there are too many variables to consider, and as a fan with no insider information, I'm not going to even speculate on other factors. The gap between the two teams wasn't getting any narrower, which made it an even tougher pill to swallow. I appreciate your post and your point of view, but we will just have to disagree on this topic, but respectfully so :-)

Again , everyone is entitled to an opinion. The last couple of years for MR were hard to watch, the crowd booing and leaving at halftime, then not even showing up. I don't see that as a resume for a great coach. He could even have won me over again if he had made ONE CHANGE towards improvement. He did not. He remained stuck in the past with an undying loyalty to failing assistants. I do not know of any business where that is tolerated. The ducks are now in the same position with a coach that really has no business being a coach. He rode Chip Kelly's coat-tails all the way to the bank and the idiot duck 'OWNERS' were carrying the moneybags for him. Look at the hiring of Hoke. That was done to create some positive headlines, full knowing that the guy cannot coach defense. That was simply Helfrich going into job protection mode. "I cannot get someone too good or they will replace me ". Now, he is on the hot seat and why ? Because he put himself there. People that cannot change, are doomed to fail. I also LOVE where the program is heading. I loved seeing the hitting and the pressure, the blocking and the effort.... all the things WE pay to see. As regards the duck team yesterday. They just beat number 11 Utah the weekend before. They had the best talent, just the wrong coach and staff. They were ready to play, we outplayed them. We outplayed them because Andersen had a plan and it worked to perfection. Remember, the ducks were touting herbert as the next Mariotta - he had crazy good numbers, they had Royce Freeman , et al. They SHOULD have won, they DIDN'T win , because the Beavers were TOUGHER and SMARTER because of ANDERSEN and the staff. That is what I saw and it is what I believe and it is why I am proud to support the football program.

All the money that Oregon has and instead of going to get a defensive guru, they go grab Hoke. I can't imagine that Helf would choose only hires that aren't a "threat" - I'd love to know what the thought was about how he was going to fit in and be an asset though.

Wow, this is kind of revisionist history: "The last couple of years for MR were hard to watch, the crowd booing and leaving at halftime, then not even showing up. I don't see that as a resume for a great coach." The last couple of years of MR he won more overall games, more conference games, and attendance was about 7,000 more per game than these first two years of GA. I understand fans got tired of MR and wanted a change, but if we're honestly comparing the last two years of MR and the first two years of GA, there really isn't an objective comparison. I do hear a lot of subjective comparisons such as "they play harder" or "they're tougher" which are completely un-measurable, but apparently a LOT of people around here have poor memories. I expect and hope GA can get this team back to a respectable level, but making up "facts" about how bad the team or attendance was under MR when it was actually BETTER than what we've gotten out of GA is just ludicrous.

I am NOT making up facts. Why do you think Riley was given a nudge to either get his act together or else. He took the 'Or else' - good for him. I have several season tickets in all Beaver sports, and donate heavily to athletics as well as academics. In Rileys last two years, when I did go - the booing was the loudest noise in the stadium GUARANTEED! I, along with many other 'more than fans' were ready to dump the ticket and the donation 'investments'. The numbers were mounting up in the season ticket losses and there, at least, had to be a discussion' with MR nice guy. The revisionist history is for people like you that look back at these years and say everything was perfect. Anyone that actually invests in the programs and had to sit through that product he put on the field knows better.

So I guess the question is, we're you booing and leaving at half time? People who do certain things often tend to think everyone is doing the same.

I did not boo, I did leave though because everyone else was filing out, or did not come back after halftime. I guess the corn dogs at the tailgaters were more 'interesting'. I can only stand incompetence so long. Did you see he actually fired someone today, Don Read. Methinks he is hearing from the Nebraska supporters - but, I can already tell them. He will NEVER win the Conference. He will do no better than Pellini which was not good enough. His days are numbered and now he is finally bowing to the pressure that a program like Nebraska will bring year after year, after year. Just like a program at OSU should demand. Otherwise, you are doomed to a lifetime of mediocrity. Again, look at the uo situation. - one bad season and a couple of awful games, and they are looking for a replacement. This is a problem of their own doing. We would still have Craig Robinson as basketball coach if the MR syndrome is that rampant.

Dropping games to FCS programs is just something you can't do. This led to BDC telling Riley he wasn't going to extend the contracts of any of Riley's assistants.

Neither team is bowl bound, neither team competed with the top of the conference. The ducks beat the 3 team on the south (Utah) whoopie I get that it's exciting to beat Oregon but true truth is OS beat a four win (2 conf) team at home by ten. That's a game a CGA or MR coached team better win. I like how it was done, running the ball...golly had we have done that va Utah maybe things would be different

In fact Mike Riley would have won 7 or 8 games with these players this year. Ha ha that is quite delusional there for you to say Mike Riley would have won 7 or 8 games this year. I think your mom colors are showing.

We literally had more embarrassing losses in 2015 than we did in the last 4 years of Riley. What was it, 5 or 6 games we were destroyed by half-time? If the "embarrassing losses" were what put Riley out of commission, GA wouldn't have lasted half a season. I suppose Mike Leach should be on the way out as well. He's lost to FCS programs two seasons in a row.

Anyone that actually invests in the programs and had to sit through that product he put on the field knows better. From an unbiased source in cfbstats.com, over the last 5 years of Riley, he had attendance below 40,000 fans twice. 1 time was the rescheduled Nicholls state game in 2012. The other time was against Hawaii at home in 2013. Gary Andersen, has had attendance OVER 40,000 only twice in 2 years. This Civil War that was just played and versus Boise State this year as well. The point is, no matter how much you want to close your eyes and pretend fans were leaving in droves, they were not. and in fact, Mike Riley leaving and Gary Andersen taking over did not spike attendance as one would expect from your position, that fans were fed up with Riley. Fans did not rejoice and come out in droves... But all that aside, i am simply going to say this: Why the hell is there even a thread bagging on Riley after a Civil War win? seriously? That is where you mind goes? good grief.
