I already did earlier in the thread. There is a bunch of WRs that have had little to no playing time this season and many of them seem to at least have the potential to add some much-needed speed to the lineup to stretch the field. Yet for whatever reason Gundy chooses to keep them on the sideline and play guys like Walker and Noga, basically possession receivers. Very few others even see the field. Gundy didn't think it was important to develop a passing game early in the season and the Beavers are paying the price now that they are playing some teams that are tougher to run on. IMO it was a glaring mistake and I've been questioning the over obsession on the run game from the start of the season. Noga and Walker play, because they get open and catch the ball. You don't need burners, if you have guys getting open and making plays. The problem has been at quarterback, not receiver. I disagree. They are not getting open consistently against the better defenses they've played. And you do need speed guys because it at the very least loosens up the secondary when a deep threat is in the game. Yes, McCoy has made some bad decisions. The pass game is woefully underdeveloped.

It was shocking how little we passed against Idaho State, no matter that we could run all over them. That was an opportunity to see how the pass game was developing. Frankly, I don't think we've has a consistently good passing game since Mike Riley was coach.

I mean, they took a few deep shots early in the season and McCoy threw a couple of nice balls. And then, no more deep shots. You would think we would have seen more of Wells and Reddicks. Nope. Just Walker and Noga with a little bit of Clemons thrown in when available. Not to mention no thought of bringing anyone else into the mix. Tight end was basically unused in the pass game for the first several games except one TD throw to Caulfield. I just don't see the benefit to any of it.

I am worried about little used, but possibly good, WRs leaving. Need to develop a complete passing game.

Where are they going to go? Head to D2? A truly bad mid major? Maybe people leave to play closer to home or follow a girlfriend? The best players were already ransacked and none of the current talented guys are playing well enough to interest a program better than ours. Attrition is more likely coming from P4 players transferring to us for playing time. There could very easily be some roster cleaning to make room.

Attrition is more likely coming from P4 players transferring to us for playing time. There could very easily be some roster cleaning to make room. We have plenty of talented players. They were all recruited by multiple D1 teams. Players want to play and there are plenty of teams that will look at our guys. At worst they are quality depth and offer roster competition. Folks want to blame differing factors... injuries, talent level, coaching. But, from Day 1 there were obvious issues with scheme and offensive development. It became magnified as new injuries and with better competition. Talent has to be put into a position to succeed. IMHO it hasn't for the most part due to key coaches having less experience in their position and responsibilities than many of the players. OSU's roster will be raided. Other coaches know there is talent on this roster. How many choose to leave, how many transfer in remains to be seen. Not expecting many staff changes so we all have to hope that they can learn and develop some talent. Besides HS recruits, this staff REALLY REALLY needs to collect some experienced players at every position.

Also, the TOP thing, knowing our defense was going to have a hard time stopping a decent offense. It worked, until it didn't.

A solid run game is great but if the opposition doesn't respect your pass game then the run becomes much more difficult. I like a run oriented offense. I don't like a run obsessed offense.
