They are talking about a five-year GOR. I think Few is probably at Gonzaga for at least a few years (how can you not do that?).

Few has taken Gonzaga to another level; however, they had a good program before Few with Dan Fitzgerald and Dan Monson. With their brand, expectations and the resources whoever comes after Few will inherit a good situation.

I do think the Pac-12 should offer a full share to Gonzaga. While it's not a football school, it is absolutely an elite basketball school. It is a nationally recognized brand and will boost the perception of the Pac-12 to a good degree. Right now, that's huge for a newly forming conference. Power for how long? Few can’t coach forever. There’s no guarantee after that. Look at other great programs that fell apart after the long-term successful coach retired. Georgetown Louisville Indiana UNLV Oregon State! Arkansas UTEP/Texas Western Maryland Others And Duke has still flourished. So did Kansas when Williams moved to UNC. So has UNC when Williams retired. So has Creighton after Altman left. So has Arizona after Lute. Not taking Gonzaga because they might not be as good after Few retires 10 years down the road is pretty poor logic.

I never said we shouldn’t take them. It was the question of how much to cut them in for. Looks like future success after the great coach leaves is 50-50.

I was against adding three Eastern schools. I could live with one, Memphis, to get us to eight.
If the Pac is only going after Memphis, it can divert some of the conference buyout money intended to aid Tulane and USF to the Tigers, making the package more amenable. And you've reduced travel in all sports outside of your geographic footprint to one destination, not three, and conveniently that destination is the closest one to the Pac-7 schools.
We'd play football there once every two years. That would also hold in baseball, and perhaps also in other sports, depending on the scheduling format.
The low-cost buyout in the event of a P4 invitation gives Memphis some cover. They continue to believe the Big 12 or ACC will want them at some point. Probably a pipedream, but now they would have a cheap and easy out in the unlikely event that happens.

Looks like Texas St might be off the board soon. That would be bad - their fans seem better than most others and they seem to hate the idea of going to the MWC as it's a lateral, at best, move.

Sometimes you can shop so long that what you want to buy is no longer there.

Sometimes you can shop so long that what you want to buy is no longer there. And sometimes the seller tells you they have good offers already (that aren’t that good and that they don’t want to accept) just to get you excited to buy and over pay.

Any other schools in the mwc are taken. We need at least one more team. Who do you want us to get.? The cupboard is getting kind of bare.

Whoever that 8th team might be will be able to call its price.

If we have to overpay a little, it's worth the price of ensuring we have the best G5 football league and a very good basketball league. Two or three extra NCAA units over the next couple years more than pays the freight.
