I'm not sure if you are referring to Koy or Anthony....Koy is an Iowa kid... he beat 3x defending champ Carter Freeman (who was ranked) in the state finals. He was ranked briefly after that with wins over Freeman and Hinson. He dropped out of the rankings probably due to not wrestling Fargo or other big tournaments over the summer. Anthony is the one without PIAA postseason results due to the transfer rule. He was in the rankings last month but fell out due to his 0-1 Med FFT out at Super 32. National rankings are hard to figure out and I am not sure there is a ton of stock in those rankings. One ranking I do like is that we are ranked in the top 5 for the 2026 class.
I hope that as these new classes come in, we see more CP/NE/JR/CC HS recruits break into the line up over transfers and become AA's. Pretty sure all AA's have been transfers or JZ's holdovers. Willits bros, Devon T, Kaylor and Munoz (I know he is a CP guy who went to ASU for him and followed here, still a transfer). I could be blanking on a name. We have seen Gabe, Noah T, Nash, Menke, Hamblin and I think Garver. Hastriter has wrestled, have not been encouraged by his progress over the years and it seems like Attao should pass him this year, maybe Mower will pass him to. Interesting to me they are all RS Soph, I think 2022 class, except Hastriter. Talk about a class producing early! 6 guys who have impacted the line up and 4 who are from the NW! Gabe W, Noah T, Nash and Menke have got the most opportunity so far and performed well IMO.
Made me wonder how we would rank our CP/NE HS recruiting classes so far by College performance. Upon review I landed with this, interested in others thoughts
1. 2022. Discussed above, have certainly made their mark on the school already. 1 Grad, Knight, 1 Transfer Scott, and 1 med retire, Anderson.
2. 2023, early signs of success. This is based on Rademacher and Attao. Attao gets some love for his performance this past Summer and Fall. 2 transfers in Cade and Dagen. I think there are several others in this class who could break through.
3. 2024, very small class with Gage, Hunter and Moses as listed by the Beavers roster. Two guys at 125, have to assume Gage will move up over time or move to a different program. Moses has a great pedigree from Gilroy and DC. If we get one contributor from this class, that would be huge.
4. 2020 Class, Mason Reiniche I believe was our first CP HS recruit, correct me if I am wrong here. Been in and out of the line up over the years. He is actually the lone remaining member of that HS class still on roster. That year had many transfers like Reyes and Matty Ice. But this is a HS ranking.
5. 2021 Class, no one has broke through to become a starter. Gambrall, Christiansen and Hastriter have done some spot work here and there. Christiansen is actually a CC recruit, so he doesn't help here. Stormer, Kodiak, Bell, Eveland, Gambrall and Hastriter are the ones who are left.
I see our 2025 and 2026 ending up in the top 4. I think they will pass 2020, 2021 and 2024, due to its size, easily. To me the recruiting trend and transfer trend has shown that CP/NE have greatly elevated the caliber of HS recruit who is able to consistently contribute and compete. Our lineups have consistently been JZ holdovers and transfers up to this point in time. Last year's line up, if healthy, would have had just 3 CP/NE HS Recruits. This year could feature as many as 5 IMO. Munoz, Harman, Renteria, Olguin and Stiles seem like locks at this point in time. Same with Attao and Gabe for HS. Noah T, Nash, Menke and Garver are all in the mix. Noah, Nash and Garver seem to all be in similar range of weight so one will be the odd man out I think. Menke will probably compete with Stiles.
All this to say, we are absolutely trending in the right direction for HS recruiting. Our D1 transfer caliber has been high through this process and we are seeing the coaches pick and choose the transfers very smartly. The additions of Rhoden and Crooks have paid dividends on the recruiting path it seems.
Our program has an improving RTC, youth program run by an alumni in Kaylor and a very active summer camp circuit they participate in. Only thing missing IMO, lets get a women's D1 team at OSU! We have an award winning coach and Olympians involved in the RTC. This is prompted by former OSU wrestler Gary Traub being named an Asst. for OkState women' team. To me it is a no-brainer and a somewhat easy add.
The future is bright! Go Beavs!
* WIllits', Kaylor and Turner were Z recruits... but the other side of the coin is the question if they would have been AA under Zalesky? Those guys all jumped levels under CP.
* Reiniche was a transfer from Cornell... He did the gray shirt thing at Finger Lakes WC (Spartan Combat RTC).
* Pendleton's first recruiting class was 2021- His first HS signee was Ricky Bell I believe. That class was tough because they were late in the recruiting cycle.
* Yeah, the level of recruit has definitely risen. With the roster limit of 30 next year, there will be a roster crunch.
