I don't know about the current team, but I sure would like to see this year's team if everybody would have stuck around (coaches included). But we don't live in that world Yea, yesterdays game would've been competitive. Hole is really not that great. I mean they might be top 20, but they don't look like a top 10 team to me. Their QB had an outstanding game yesterday and has been very good at every one of his stops. Maybe not an upper-echelon NFL prospect (if he was, he'd be there already), but he can play.

Johnson was kneecapped from the start by the bad snap that put him in a 2nd-and-18. Not the recipe for success. In fact, it's the same sort of situations Marcus McMarryion faced when Anderpants consistently put him in games at the start of his career. "Oh, first down on our 4-yard line? Go get 'em, Marcus, show me what you can do." I don't think that one series impacted the game very much at all. He didn't play at all in the second half, when they steamrolled us. Was that really all on the snap? Watching it live I thought the snap was low and to right, but handleable, I thought McCoy would have grabbed it. I’m not likely to watch the replay but if someone posts it that would be interesting to see. I didn’t like putting Johnson in in that game, but clearly the cfp is out of reach for this team, so I actually don’t have a problem playing him a series or more the rest of the schedule. Bowl games are a farce, so once the cfp is out of reach, I’m all for experimentation and making the season as fun as possible (yes, I understand wins make it fun, but I don’t think it will change our win total more then +-1) I don't like the idea of making the season "fun as possible" just because the CFP may be out. Could having a "Beavers: Love & Thunder" type of season go over like it did for the Thor franchise?

The snap was off-target, but I thought, watching it, that McCoy would have caught the snap. Bowl games are generally the most-watched games of the year outside of rivalry games or games featuring two ranked teams. You do not want to tank a bowl game. Plus, this year, I am not sure how the money gets split up. It may be that Oregon State pockets all of the bowl game money. In that case, all of the games are important, and you should be desirous to win them all. And putting Johnson in, so the other team can put eight in the box every play does not help Oregon State. Johnson is still a work in progress. If you want to play him, play him sometime in the second half for a change of pace. The third drive like clockwork is stupid.

They put 8 in the box against McCoy and we did nothing.

Not so fun fact: Dillon Gabriel finished with a QBR rating of 99.3, the second-highest this year of all quarterbacks on all teams this year. Gabriel may not be a top-five QB for draft purposes, but he certainly played like one on Saturday.

FWIW (probably nothing), To my eye the problem at FSU is NOT DJU... Their offensive line is TERRIBLE, on run and pass protection. The receivers drop a ton of balls, and their defense is a sieve. Fix all that and then look at DJ.
That said, I don't miss him one iota. I didn't like him here last year either after the first couple games I was champing at the bit for Chiles to start. I like McCoy a lot! Looking forward to watching him the rest of the year.
And, sure it didn't lose us the game or anything, but for the love of pete stop giving the backup the third series of the game. And if you insist on that, just run the offense, why switch to the triple option with him?

It's probably pretty easy to put up an excellent QBR when you have a clean pocket on 95% of your drop-backs. The advantage at the line was obvious on offense and defense Saturday.

I think any team with a competent O line is gonna have a really good day against us......unless something changes.

DJ should sit down, use his redshirt year and find a program With better line desperate for a QB. Who knows

Danny O'Neil got hurt on that first drive against Oregon State and was obviously hurt but played through it. O'Neil missed the Cal game altogether. Bye next week and then a trip to play Central Michigan for him to get back. And then a game against Hawai'i and a trip to Laramie before the second bye. Of course, with how it is going, he may take his time to get back to 100%. San Diego State looks talented, but they are very young. One returning starter on defense. Better days have got to be ahead, but I am unsure if they happen this year.

Easier, yes, but not easy. He also had a very nice run for a TD and numerous times when he hit his second or third option, especially on the TD pass to the north end zone. He's a good QB. That's why he got big money at Oklahoma and even bigger money to leave Oklahoma.
