Future MLB players Mike Thurman and Jamie Burke were on that team. We had talent back in the day, just not as much of it.

Looks like the Phantom of the Opera is hovering over the bleachers down the first base line.

Technically, not Goss Stadium at that time.

Jamie Burke at the plate. Pat Meiwes on deck. Brooke Knight and Tim Kissner in the foreground. Burke had a 10-year career in the Majors. Knight was the kicker on the football team in 1993. 13/15 on extra points and 2/6 on field goals in 1993. Knight was not drafted but played some time in the minors. Tim Kissner played some independent minor league ball. Scott Christman was the ace in 1993. Christman was selected 17th overall in the MLB draft but never rose above AA ball. The next two best starters, Mike Thurman and Mason Smith also were drafted the next year: Thurman #31 overall and Smith #510 overall. Thurman had a six-year MLB career and was the worst-hitting pitcher ever with at least 50 at bats, a .031 lifetime batting average. Smith played A ball but never advanced beyond that. The season came down to the final two weekends. Washington entered atop the Pac-10 North at 17-7. Oregon State was a half-game back at 17-8. The two played a three-game series in Corvallis. The Beavs won the opener 2-1 to take the lead in the Pac-10 North but lost the last two 5-4 and 9-6 to give the Pac-10 North lead back to the Huskies. Washington then swept Gonzaga at home to win the Pac-10 North. Oregon State won the final two against Wazzu midweek. Had the Beavs beat the Huskies in one of the final two games in Corvallis, Oregon State and Washington would have finished tied atop the Pac-10 North. Had the Beavs won the Pac-10 North, they probably would have played in the Tournament. Instead Oregon State stayed home.

This was basically on my route home from classes 1993-1996. Used to stop all the time and either catch a midweek game or practice. Good memories. I'm old.

Tim Kissner had a long career as a scout for the Phillies. I don't think he is in baseball anymore.
Jamie managed in the Angels organization after his playing career was over. I think he is working in law enforcement down in Douglas County.
Brooke has coached the Corvallis Knights since 2008 and will manage Sydney in the Australian Baseball League. He has also managed Perth and Adelaide.
Thurm has been a scout for the New York Yankees for many years, lives in the Portland area.
Rumor has it the White Sox messed with Christman's delivery and it ruined him. He did strike out Michael Jordan, though, in intrasquad games.
Shortstop Alan Smelling, from Newport, is a businessman in the Portland area; he played a couple years of MiLB. Kevin Hooker is still involved in baseball back in Australia, he was affiliated with the Tigers for some time.
Some other players from that era, like pitcher Jeff Post and outfielder Jeff Moore, live in Portland area. They are also on the Knights Board of Directors (so is Adley's dad).
The 1994 team had a reunion at Goss this past season.

Ocho, you are not old. I met Jaime's oldest sister in 1971. We had the same school bus stop in a rural area. I walked about 1/4 mile to the stop. Anyway, I was inside the Burke house a few times and Jaime was a tiny baby. I don't know if he is in law enforcement. I know he did some substitute teaching in the winter even when he was on the Mariner's roster.

Hard to believe that's the same stadium we see today that can be said about just about any athletic facility at OSU

Burke signed with the Angels after the 1993 baseball season. So, Knight replaced Burke as the kicker for in 1993. Having baseball players on the football team is a great way to help bolster the baseball roster, because of the extra scholarship for each baseball player on the football roster. Having said the foregoing, I think that Burke signing with Angels caught Pettibone off-guard, which is why he had Knight kick in 1993.

Alan Snelling and David Schmidt, an outstanding catcher from that era, were at the Dugout Club Golf Tournament this morning. David played in the Cardinals' organization after OSU and reached AA for sure, perhaps AAA briefly.
