maybe super talented in some aspects of the game but they are a one trick pony. Measuring this team against what we could call the beavers standard, they are substandard in fielding, base running, defense, catching and the bullpen. I hope they go to Omaha and win it all but that doesn’t change those realities Best team since 2018. Lots of tricks. Fielding and defense feels like the same thing. 68 errors. I think that that is the most to this point in the season since 2004. Fielding and defense has been rough. But you are only one error ahead of the 2013 team. 68-67. So, it is not outlandish, especially when spread out over 59 games. And that 2013 team was about a foot or two away from probably winning a National Championship. We had some really bad catching teams over the years. You can go back and read some of Mitchy Slick's stat lines. Mitchy Slick was a converted first baseman, and he played like it at times. No one is playing like Rutschman on the team, but Logan Ice did not play like Logan Ice, until his Junior year. Even Rutschman was pretty mediocre in 2017 before coming back in in 2018 and blowing everyone's mind. Heck, look at that 2013 team again. Nate Esposito caught 13 games. Nate Espisito! JRod caught 57 games, splitting time with second and third. We had some awful bullpens over the year, too. Mully blew saves, lots of them. Just to keep piling on that 2013 team, Taylor Painton, Brandon Jackson, Dan Child, Cole Brocker, Taylor Starr, Clay Bauer, and Zack Reser combined to throw 116 innings, almost 20% of the innings in 2013, more than Ben Wetzler! And that was probably the fifth-best Oregon State team of all time. Are the Beavs perfect? Hell no, but Oregon State has never been perfect in baseball. Are the Beavs great? Absolutely! Let's not pretend that they are not great. Let's not get too bogged down with this, though. Let's go out there and kill some Wildcats this weekend! FYI, Nate Esposito played 228 games in six seasons in the minor leagues with the Royals organization and twice reached triple-A Omaha. No, he wasn't Adley Rutschman. But he wasn't a plumber, either, they don't get to play six years in affiliated baseball. This team has its flaws, and quite often seems to win despite itself. Walks, HBP, errors, baserunning gaffes, we sure make our fair share. But what matters is, despite that IT WINS QUITE OFTEN (76% of the time) and in the final analysis that is what matters. Now, if we somehow can clean things up over the next two weeks, we can be very dangerous. Having Guerra be an effective part of the offense again is huge.

Talent wise this is one of the best teams we've ever had. Where they "end up" is anybody's guess. maybe super talented in some aspects of the game but they are a one trick pony. Those previous Beaver teams only got better and more perfect in your mind.

Nate Esposito transferred out after the 2014 season, when it became clear that Logan Ice would be the future. Esposito transferred out to Concordia. After that season, he was drafted in the 33rd Round by the Royals. Esposito was playing AAA ball in 2017, AA in 2018 and played parts of 2019 and 2021 in AAA. As with a lot of players, his career may have been sidetracked by COVID-19. Interesting facts include that his second position was second, playing one game at second for Northwest Arkansas. Esposito was also Omaha's emergency pitcher, throwing three innings of scoreless baseball for Omaha. Someone once said that the people that are castigated the most are the worst best players. You get the most grief for being just good enough to nab a roster spot at Oregon State or AAA Omaha let's say but not quite good enough to excel at either place. If you are slightly better, no one really lays into you. If you are slightly worse, no one really knows who you are. I fell into this trap, which is unfortunate. My apologies to Esposito, who helped lead Oregon State to Omaha back in 2013 and was presumably on the bench for the four games there.

In today's (Monday's) half of the game [4-2/3 innings], Irvine had 2 hits, 0 walks, 2 HBP.
That's a great day against a very accomplished offensive squad. A testament to the Beaver bullpen.
Anteaters, on the season, averaged 1.3 Hits per inning; 2/3 of a BB per inning; 1/3 of a HBP per inning.

Easier to say after beating them twice, but they have my respect. They played hard and used all the tools they could. Even (if he did) influencing the umps to postpone the game. It was a strategic move. Of course, when they came out scoring so fast, I'm sure the rain didn't feel so bad.

He didn’t have anything to do with postponing the game. That was all on the umpires and the NCAA rep.

Irvine had already played almost five hours in the rain. It wasn't letting up; in fact it was getting worse. Competition and player safety was compromised. The umpires/NCAA officials clearly made the right choice.
And how many of you were happier watching in the rain on Sunday as opposed to watching in good weather today?
In the regular season, once a game starts, the umpires have complete control. In NCAA games, once the game starts the tournament officials have complete control.

Once done with post season Nate Esposito will be building his resume as the head coach for the Medford Rogues. Kyle Fromcke will be an assistant. Interim coaches for the Rogues include Nate’s father. Tyce Peterson, Levi Jones, and Matthew Morrell will be joining them.

In the regular season, once a game starts, the umpires have complete control. In NCAA games, once the game starts the tournament officials have complete control. Not making a judgement on whether the tournament officials were justified on postponing the game. But, being in the RF bleachers, I completely disagree with the above statement. Yes, it was still raining, but the rain was actually lighter at the time the game was postponed. It was the wild pitch way over the batters head and catchers mitt, along with the bat that went flying to the side, etc. that precipitated the decision. The reason the fans around me were pissed, is not only was the rain no worse than some of the games in March, but it was actually letting up a bit.
My irritation is, with all of the fancy technology we have for rain and weather prediction, why the hell did you start the game, if you had no intention of finishing it, or calling it early, after 5 innings? They finished the earlier game, and it was raining about the same. The rain was fairly consistent after about 10:30-11:00 on Sunday. They had plenty of time, armed with the weather forecast and radar, to postpone the game, and play a full game on Monday. Typical BS from an institution that is overseeing the destruction of college sports.

I agree. I was more surprised that they started the game then the postponement. I get why you want to get the loser's bracket game in, because one of those teams goes home and it's difficult to schedule 3 potential games for Monday, but there was no need to start our game.
