I would throw Kmatz in game 1. May typically goes long and saves the bullpen. If Kmatz goes first and only goes 5 innings and relies on bullpen to finish, and May goes 7-8 on Saturday, then you can rest the bullpen and potentially use the Friday night bullpen guys on Sunday when they will surely be needed. Good point. Initially I was leaning May in game 1, but many Beaver fans are making a great case for Kmatz. " I love this stuff!" Go Beavs!

Always interesting how a season goes. Overall, pitching is on the uptick for sure. Less errors as of late. Those two things could really be the key to this team making a run. Plus Baz doesn't have a HR in what? 6 or 7 games? He's due for an offensive explosion all on his own, which in turn could get everyone going. One good thing about bowing out of the Pac 12 tourney early is that it gave them a bit of time to rest up. Wouldn’t it be great to see Micah back in the lineup?

I have said it before and I will say it again...you throw May in game 2 against (presumably) UCI's #2. The idea is to win the regional, not the first game of the regional. I have always believed that approach gives us our best shot. Obviously a loss in game one is virtually fatal, but a loss in game 2 is just slightly less fatal. My question is do you pitch Kmatz against Green Wave or Segura? I usually get bashed for this opinion, but I am back for more. I could not disagree more. Beavs need to win game one. Tulane is no joke. Osu Needs to stay playing at night to have a chance in this regional. Kmatz can pitch gm2. If we go deep into bullpen, we are sunk. as for UCI…. Nicholls does have a solid #1…. If UCI thinks they can pitch downstaff and wait for osu… theyll get beat

No home runs in the last eight games and that will become nine after the first pitch against Tulane. Baz is rather quietly hitless in his last nine plate appearances after getting a base-hit to start the eighth against Arizona.

Neither of those teams, though, has a great clearcut ace. UCI has the best true ace of the other three teams in Pinto. Jacob Mayers is Nicholls' ace. If UCI wins without Pinto, they could be very problematic. Whereas, if Nicholls wins without Mayers, I am less concerned. I should add that Nicholls' best pitcher is their go-to middle reliever Nico Saltaformaggio. If Saltaformaggio throws more than 30 pitches against Irvine, Nicholls would be even less problematic.

Tulane has an interesting schedule.
They were swept in 3 games against Irvine, at home in February. (4-5 L, 4-7 L, 7-10 L)
They won two midweek games against Nicholls St.(3-2 Win at home & a 14-12 Win on the road.)
They have a nice 3 game sweep of #16 National Seed East Carolina, at home in May.(6-5 W, 7-3 W, 10-9 W in 10 innings.

I trust the coaching staff. If they think keeping the rotation the same is the best thing for success, who am I to question it?

Irvine announced that they intend to start Nick Pinto. Kmatz should be better than whomever Irvine can bring out on Saturday.

Yup, would've been shocked if Irvine tried to save their ace in a 2/3 matchup. Can't put yourself behind the 8 ball early. If we end up playing Irvine on Monday for whatever reason I'd bet we see Pinto in some capacity in a do or die game.
Definitely makes sense to roll with May game 1 having this knowledge as well.
