...Arizona defeats Washington tonight?
On the one hand, seeding suggests it will happen. On the other hand maybe Arizona says: "OSU played us too tough last week. Let's just rest our regulars for the finals" and keep us out by losing since they have already qualified?

Let's just rest our regulars for the finals" and keep us out by losing since they have already qualified? Washington is already done. Arizona must beat Cal tonight. Arizona can potentially climb up to about #18 in RPI. (Maybe higher with some help.) That gets them some hosting consideration. If they drop this game to Cal, I am thinking that their RPI would be more like #24. They are already in the Tournament. They play Stanford tomorrow win or lose. But they are still playing for a Tucson Regional. That disappears with a loss to Cal. Add to that that #18 in RPI maybe becomes #17, if they play and beat Oregon State in the Pac-12 Championship Game. If the Cats phone it in, they're idiots.

But Oregon State needs to win one more game to note have to worry about a team like Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Vandy passing the Beavs and taking a sixth SEC host spot.

If USC wins this game against the ducks, why aren't they in one of the semi-final games, and play Stanford as the other undefeated team? Then Arizona would advance win or lose, because there are higher seed than us. We would also advance as the other one loss, next highest seeded team.

Because if Arizona loses, Cal is in at 2-0 and UA is in as the highest seeded 1 loss team. That leaves us out. The winner of the USC vs uo game is in.

Okay, I get it now. I wasn't thinking about how this is a pool play tournament. One winner in each pool is guaranteed, no matter what their record. Seems stupid to me.
Why can't the best win-loss records advance, and then the tiebreaker is based on the tournament seeding?
If Arizona wins, we play the winner of the USC-oregon game, tomorrow.

Here's my conundrum:
Now that we at least won a game, would it be so bad if we don't make the semi's?
Playing again would risk a loss, and it seems that would do more damage to our RPI than just standing pat.
Now that a national seed is likely out of the picture, this tournament just feels like all downside, no upside...

Playing again would risk a loss, and it seems that would do more damage to our RPI than just standing pat. Now that a national seed is likely out of the picture, this tournament just feels like all downside, no upside... Oregon State currently sits at #16 in RPI. East Carolina at #17, South Carolina at #18, and Mississippi State at #19 are all sitting right behind Oregon State. None can catch Oregon State today but all may be able to catch Oregon State tomorrow. South Carolina is not a huge concern, but Mississippi State is. If Mississippi State passes Oregon State, the Beavs may not host at all. Oregon State has a chance to control their own destiny with an Arizona win tonight. With a loss, the Beavs leave it up to the other teams about whether Oregon State hosts or not. As for a top eight seed, Oregon State could conceivably get up to 11 and higher than that with some help. If Santa Barbara loses a game or two, that might open the door for Oregon State to get a top eight seed, assuming that the Committee correctly seeds Georgia (i.e. the Bulldogs do not deserve to be a top eight seed).

Hopefully Kent has a better outing that his last start As a Beaver fan, you can't ask for much more than UA starting their Friday night pitcher. The Beavers got to him. Hopefully the Bears don't

I will acknowledge that this may be orange colored glasses, but I simply do not believe that RPI is guaranteed to be the only factor in picking regional hosts. My opinion: we are locked in as a regional host, not making a national seed. We will see…
