Crazy times in wrestling with the portal continuing to be active. I thought I would break out some of the discussion into a new thread for moving into next season.
First, as far as the roster is concerned, we have had some guys transfer out and had some new guys come in via transfer plus our recruits. Our roster at one point was up to around 45 guys, which is way too many. Most rosters are 30-35. Getting that number down was the plan for the program, and it makes sense. There are a lot of training expenses involved in having a large roster. With the budget concerns school wide, I also believe that the university wanted that number down as well. Another way to look at it, is that we are bringing in some very accomplished guys that are getting roster spots- Attao (3rd at senior nationals GR), Taylor (Fargo champ, Iron man runner up), Jeff Lopez - nationally ranked with a win over Cortez, Adriene Reyes (Fargo champ mulitple state placer in CA) - and don't forget the return of Sean Harman! The level of our roster over the last 5 years has dramatically changed for the good.
I am happy for our guys that are getting opportunities - Coyle heading to Kearney to wrestle with his borther, the Ruchti's heading to SOU together, White heading to Montana. Those guys got some good training to help make them better for their next stop. I think we will see a lot of our guys that head out make some news in the NAIA and D2 levels. As a side note, It's good to read great things being said about the program from wrestlers/families that are leaving.
For next. year, look forward to a great schedule. There are some high level teams coming to town. The last few years the coaching staff has put together one really good dual to come to town - PSU last year with 8500 fans - BTW, about 1k larger than the biggest women's basketball game. We have about 6-7 home meets this coming season, and some big time teams coming. I have not heard anything about the conference situation lately, but I know that with the out of conference schedule that is coming together, our guys will be battle tested regardless.
I think our lineup will look pretty solid with a lot of returning starters and some great backups stepping up like Renteria. All in all, a lot to look forward to! Go Beavs!!

Saw Hooper is leaving to a different department within OSU. Is this due to budget or potentially bringing over someone from the Cowboys as the Taylor changes roll in?

Hoop has been involved even when Z was HC. Not sure on the reason, maybe he was ready for a change?

Doesn’t exactly sound like he wanted to leave.

Evan had a great opportunity to move into a good position within the university, so it’s a good career move for him. I am sure we will still see him around the program.
As far as conference goes it’s been pretty quiet. It would be nice to get some clarity, but regardless our home schedule will be great. It doesn’t seem to be hurting the guys we are bringing on campus. If you follow social media you probably have seen the hammers we have had on campus the last month.

I was reviewing our current projected roster and your comment about decreasing the roster seems to be holding true. Looks like we are either at 34, 35 or 36, depends if John Knight is done after graduating and if Austin Scott hit the portal. Couldn't remember if he had or not. Barring further transfers out, it would appear we are pretty much set for the coming year given decreasing the room. I went ahead and listed out below the projected roster, let me know if there are any further cuts or additions I missed! I also assume our coaches are always open to adding talent through the portal, so there could be further additions and losses. I went ahead and took a swing at projected starting line up given the transfers to this point. Unsure if Noah T can make 141 or not. Also depends if Matty Ice is healthy to wrestle by season. Aden Attao Hvy

The line up will look a little different than that. It will be solid top to bottom.

idaho curious where you think it will be different. 125 could be Taylor instead of Renteria? 133 someone other than Gabe? 141 seems the most unsettled, curious who you see breaking through 149 Noah instead of Nash, maybe Nash bumps down? 157-HVY seems pretty set in stone to me if all are healthy and eligible. Would a RS to Rademacher make any sense at this point?

Pretty sure that Taylor and Singleton will be redshirting - It will be Renteria Gabe will be at 133 Nash will be at 141- not really a surprise - he was bumped up last year and just went 143 at the US Open Tolentino will be back at 149. I think that Garver will push for that spot as well - might see both wrestling there throughout the season. 157 I think will be Stiles - but he will be pushed by Menke, Jacinto and Starren Will be some good battles there if they can all make 157 HWT - Attao - however, he has world competitions in the early season, so Hastriter might see some early starts. 165-197 .... It will look different but very strong

Noticed that Isaiah Anderson has medically retired per his IG. Bummer! Was one of the recruits from previous years I was really looking forward to hitting the mat.
Wish him nothing but the best and hope the coaches can find a way to incorporate him into the program.

Yeah - a bummer for Isaiah - good kid. He really slimmed down last year to 174.
On another note, you may have noticed the NCAA talk a couple weeks ago that wrestling now has to be at 30 for a roster size for the 25-26 season. It was a good thing for the program to start getting the roster down and help guys get to other schools to have an opportunity to get on the mat to compete.
