Big 12?

Somebody explain to me why the Big 12 would have a change of heart now after repeatedly rejecting us last year and, therefore, being a party to the destruction of our football team and our women's basketball team. Our entire athletic program has been vastly diminished in the last 8 months (thanks in large part to the Big 12) and we don't bring anywhere near as much to the table as we did then. Not sure I give any credence at all to this rumor. I don't think there were repeated rejections. The Big 12 chose to take four Pac-12 teams at the time. The ACC situation was not a factor then. Now it is. Not to mention all the other stuff going on with college football, which includes ongoing power plays by the Big Ten and SEC.

This reminds me of a seinfeld episode where George is asking Elaine whether this woman likes him or likes him, likes him. The Big 12 doesn't even like us. But Houston and Kansas State will schedule home and home games with OSU. The Big 12 doesn't have anything against OSU or WSU. It just didn't see the two schools as top of the list adds last August. Again, there's been quite a bit of change since then. So we'll see.

Until all the legal BS is somewhat settled OSU is better off not being in any conference.
My guess is TV contacts will not begin to cover payments to athletes let alone increased scholarships. And, if conference membership requires you to opt in to all this, then what?
Until most of the smoke has cleared it is beneficial to stay clear of any P4 commitment. Hang G5 if necessary as there is no P4 invite that will ever allow OSU to budget with the elite. There is no reason to pretend otherwise.

No. If the worse happens, most schools will be in dire straits, not just OSU and WSU. It will probably be the end of college sports as everyone knows it, the good and ill. And I'm pretty sure dropping to the G5 would not take the Pac-2 off the hook. They are both currently power conference schools for a little more time at least. And you don't hear a bunch of schools talking about dropping to the G5 for a reason. There's no money to be had there.

If the settlement happens near to what is reported plenty of schools will opt out. Meaning they are effectively not gong to be P4. The settlement will slowly create the super conference. Theb rest will survive just fine. TV/streaming inventory can't be filled with 60 teams. But, we'll see.

But unless you have some concrete evidence that he's not truthful in his reports, I'm gonna go ahead and say you just don't agree with him.

Schools aren't going to panic and opt out until it (worst case scenario) actually happens. I've seen reports of huge numbers but I've also seen reports that power conference schools might have to pay $2 million a year. I would expect things will settle down into something that can work for the majority of schools.
