There's no innate moral high ground by being a member of the MWC or WCC. It just means less money. Potentially a lot less money.
It's not that the high ground is innate in the conference, but in what we might have to do to gain membership. I think we all agree that if we can act with integrity, concern for our student/athletes, and responsibilities as a public institution, AND join the Big12, we should join.
I think those things need to fall in place no matter where OSU goes. But trying to get into a situation that would result in more money is not wrong in and of itself.

Googling Big 12 expansion I get articles or videos from the last day or two saying about roughly half the teams in the ACC are likely to join, or wanting to get in, the Big 12. Hmmm, could be a 30 team or so conference if everybody rumored gets in. How would a conference not implode under all that weight? Teams may only see certain teams once every 10 years, and unless you have defined divisions, you'd run into the possibility of multiple undefeated teams. Who gets to play in the conference championship game? People see the Big 12 as a lifeboat, however lifeboats have a capacity limit.

It might go to 22 or so.

Which means the entire BIG 12 media payout goes to the athletes. This will happen soon or the courts will impose even higher penalties from the pending lawsuit.

Hmmm, could be a 30 team or so conference if everybody rumored gets in. Let's go for the Big 12 of 36. Then split the 36 teams into three zones: West, Central, East, with a few games here and there across boundaries. Boom. Nationwide appeal. And fun.

Don’t expect any Big 12 formal news until August 1, 2024 or later. I thought somewhere in the legal agreement with the departing members (analysis done by our own board member) that if we joined another league with 2 years, we'd have to give back a lot of the money. So Aug 1, 2025.

If that happens, then the entire thing will come crashing down. Sports will be cut everywhere as no one can afford it. It really will be just the B1G and SEC. I think that's why they're saying conferences can set a lower price point. Which, of course, will only mean a further gap between the top 2 and the rest. Which is fine with me. I hope they do go off and do their own thing.

Somebody explain to me why the Big 12 would have a change of heart now after repeatedly rejecting us last year and, therefore, being a party to the destruction of our football team and our women's basketball team. Our entire athletic program has been vastly diminished in the last 8 months (thanks in large part to the Big 12) and we don't bring anywhere near as much to the table as we did then.
Not sure I give any credence at all to this rumor.

At least we wouldn't have to foot the whole poaching the MWC bill.

The Pacific/Mountain time zone teams will be known as the Pacific Athletic Division. The Eastern time zone teams will be known as the Atlantic Coast Division. And the Central time zone teams will be known as the Big 8-Southwest Division? If the B12 can kill the ACC does that mean the B12 gets more money? I'm only asking. I have no idea or opinion on that.

It seems to me that with the 3 zone arrangement being discussed the Big12 would have a near coast to coast monopoly on quality football outside of the BIG10/SEC elite. That's a lot of football catering to a lot of fans. I would think that would put the Big12 in a stronger negotiating position for TV money.

This is exactly what I thought after I playfully proposed it. I’d think the broadcast rights would be huge. And the commish would just need to make sure that there’s enough cross-pollination to keep the west interested in the east and vice versa.

This reminds me of a seinfeld episode where George is asking Elaine whether this woman likes him or likes him, likes him. The Big 12 doesn't even like us.
