I understand the Caraway "love"... lots of potential and an exciting player. But this team needs better pitching... he doesn't help there. This team needs better defense... at a .824 FA he definitely doesn't help there. This team needs to strikeout less... he does not help there with 21 Ks vs 19 hits in 14 games. He was on pace for 80+. He has only (2) conferences games so there is no real data set for for his offense vs better competition. But, his offense steadily declined vs weaker competition... (12) Ks, vs (4) hits his last 5 games. Could Trent provide a spark? Most definitely, but he will not be the reason this team "succeeds" (definitions vary, but many here had this team an automatic to Omaha)... better pitching/defense, and more productive offensive outs will be.

If he shows up like he did against better competition early in the season it will be a welcome sight. Had a tough batch of errors/K’s in the NDSU series but honestly that was a rough first home series for a freshman from Cali playing in a slush storm. Every interview this kid has had he hasn’t shied away from his bad performances. You can’t teach the moxy/“it” factor this kid has from what I’ve seen in game and from interviews. One of the few kids on the team that resembles a throw back MFer type of attitude. This teams needs that dearly from what I’ve seen recently. Let’s focus on this weekend and get back on track.

Doesn't seem very intelligent to criticize pitching in a thread about Caraway. Actually, I'm not one of the Caraway fans. I saw his errors early and his struggles at the plate, so when he went down, I thought it would be good for him and for the team. I just feel that a young, celebrated kid who has been anxious to get back onto the field could bring energy that the team desperately needs. Perhaps a bit like Melton that year.

Cuz you know, every thread here always stays directly aligned to the title. Go Beavs

Is this the point we’ve gotten to as a fan base? You thought it was good for the team that a player slashing .352/.435/517 with 2 HR and a team leading 5 doubles at the time got hurt? Also was pretty dang clutch for us in a couple different games? I get the errors and strikeouts but man I would be really interested to see your comments when Adley was hitting .234/.322/.306 as a freshman?

Did you see my post saying that I’m anxious to see him get back? Or did you miss that? At the time, the number of errors was unprecedented…well, since we became a quality team. And Trosky was in the wings. Everyone on the team was hitting like mad, but defense was unusually weak. I thought bringing Trosky in and having Hainline at 3b would cut down the errors. We’ve seen that it hasn’t and we can use a lively bat. Also, Adley was a pro on the field from the start. The way he carried himself and the way he communicated. He would’ve continued to play even if those numbers hadn’t improved a lot because he was the best at that position. My comment about not being one of Caraway’s fans was in reference to the amount of love Caraway got before he played a game for us. Freshman of the year predictions and all of that.

Oregon State is one of the two best pitching teams in the conference with Arizona being the other. This team needs more consistent pitching, but the pitching has been great by Pac-12 standards this year. Team defense has just been wretched. 52 errors. Only UCLA has more. 10th in the Pac-12! We were tied for third in the past 20 seasons with 45 errors one week ago and committed seven in the four games in the past week. Now at 52. 2024 Oregon State officially has the most errors at this point in the season since 2004. Just awful.

I wonder how many fewer errors there would be if Hainline would field the ball between his legs while squatting and bending forward, instead of leaning off to the side.

Game 3 against hole might have gone completely different had we not started out with two quick errors, and down 2-0 in the first. Burk mentioned that as well......not a good way to start, and the whole teams seemed flat from there on out.

We have some mentally weak players if that's all it takes for them to not hit.
