Couldn’t get Sprinkle, so I guess his assistant coach will have to do.

So, did he and Sprinkle have a falling out?
Seems weird that they suddenly part ways.

So, did he and Sprinkle have a falling out? Seems weird that they suddenly part ways. Haslam is a big man coach from the UK. Haslam was thought to be the choice to coach Montana State before Sprinkle decided to hire Haslam on at Utah State. Supposedly a real up-and-comer, who is supposed to be a plus coach and recruiter. To add to that, in the short term, if Haslam can coax Great Osobor to Oregon State.............. Hell, recruit all seven guys from Utah State. This has the potential to be a huge slam dunk hire, especially in an effort to try and throw together a team this year.

So, did he and Sprinkle have a falling out? Seems weird that they suddenly part ways. I’d guess he’s looking for ACs with high major experience. I believe he’s bringing Andy Hill along with him from USU staff, who coached at Utah. Hill was also a guy he brought to Montana St, while Haslam was a holdover from previous staff. Just might be a case of knowing he needs to ramp up his staff for B1G and Hill with that experience was more “his guy.” Seems like a solid enough hire. If he’s at least half the coach the new AC at Illinois Orlando Antigua is, I’ll be happy. They do have similarities. Antigua is a great big man coach and known for international recruiting, though his is more Caribbean and Latin AmerIcan based.

Antigua is a great big man coach and known for international recruiting, though his is more Caribbean and Latin AmerIcan based. Hea may have been a hold over from the previous MSU staff, but Sprinkle kept him there for three seasons and took him to USU. Hill hasn't been with him as long, although I did see he was promoted in January to Associate HC. Maybe that was the down turn? But, the gap between Sprinkle's hire and this hire seems weird. A month later yet last I looked UW site lists no ACs. I looked as I was curious if UW was going to approve the hiring of Tony Bland. Again no list, but integral part of recruiting scandal and new to Sprinkle over a guy who developed his bigs for 4+ years? If so, maybe it was Haslam that wanted no part of that type of staff??

Personally, I’m skeptical that it was Haslam’s choice not to go to UW because of Bland being on staff. He would likely have received a sizable pay raise — possibly as much as double. But who knows? And not like Tinkle has a great track record of advancing ACs’ careers. I also noticed the release for Haslam’s hire mentions he has 2 daughters (no idea what ages), but didn’t mention a wife. Depending on what that situation is, maybe he didn’t want the increased travel being in B1G would mean for family reasons and liked Corvallis for raising a family.
Saw short interview with Sprinkle in which he said Hill would be AC at Washington. He didn’t mention any other candidates except to say he was excited about who he was looking at but nothing final yet.
Regardless of reasons, seems like a good hire for Beavs. Much better than I was expecting to be honest.
