Any idea why their starter has not pitched more innings? Tough to see no Dallas in the lineup. Feel like he has become this team's version of Kwan, Meckler.

Any idea why their starter has not pitched more innings? Tough to see no Dallas in the lineup. Feel like he has become this team's version of Kwan, Meckler. They use a "inverted" pitching rotation. The Rays got the most attention for their using it, starting around 2017-18 after a bunch of injuries to their starting rotation. They went to "openers" vs starters, and stacked different arms into a rotation and then set bullpen/rest days accordingly. Some college teams actually use their closer occasionally or one of their late inning guys as an "opener" and try to get thru the order 1-2 times, 2-3 IP, then piece the other innings with a starter for 4-5+ innings, then close. Basically a philosophy to not allow hitters to see the same arm/stuff over multiple at bats. And, at times due to not having dominate starters that will give 4-5+ innings... or due to recovering from arm issues. Either way it leads to teams seeing multiple arms versus a starter 3 times thru the order. Good idea if a team has the depth. |
