I appreciate Pat Casey more, every day! His blood, sweat, and tears has this program in a position to weather the storm. Keep Mitch happy, and the kids will keep coming. An Omaha trip this year wouldn't hurt recruiting either.
My hope is that Canham is always planning on how the program continues after him.....I bet he is. He's a very thoughtful young man. We know how much he values OSU baseball. Hes an OG O-State Balla!!

Many people said this exact same thing about Smith. I, personally, am done thinking like that. Smitty is a weird duck from a weird family of Californians. Mitchy Slick is from the Northwest. Outside of his 11- or 12-year stint in professional baseball (player/coach), he has lived in the Northwest his entire life. His mom is buried in Benton City, and his brother's ashes were scattered in Arlington, Washington. Mitchy Slick's great uncle, Charles D.W. Canham also led the 116th ashore at Omaha on D-Day and refused medical treatment until his entire regiment got off of the beach, despite being shot through the wrist. Charles Canham was later promoted to Brigadier General, Assistant Division Commander of the 8th Infantry Division. At the Battle for Brest, he provided the 8th Infantry with the Division's motto. When asked by a three-star German general what one-star General Canham's credentials were, General Canham pointed to the dirty and tired American soldiers that came with to witness the surrender, and said "These are my credentials. By the end of the war General Canham won every award for valor, except the Medal of Honor from the United States. He also was awarded the Distinguished Service Order by General Bernard L. Montgomery and several awards for valor from France. He ultimately rose to a two-star Major General and commanded XI Corps. It is extremely easy to be cynical and jaded. But Mitchy Slick has never shown himself to be anything other than extremely loyal, like his great uncle. I will continue to be optimistic and positive about pretty much everything Beaver-related. I'm putting you on a "Mitchy Slick" warning.

Two thoughts:
1) I'll bet Pat Casey is happier than ever that he retired and does not have to deal with this destruction of college sports.
2) I don't think any major league team (general manager) would take the (perceived risk) of hiring any college head coach as a MLB manager, no matter how well qualified the applicant. Said general manager would be concerned about retaining his job in the event of failure.

All these things were said about smith and said about Damien Martinez. OSU fans eyes are being opened one dagger in the back at a time. At this point I expect all of sports programs to turn into development teams for schools that buy our athletes. All sports will be relegated to lower leagues and any star athletes uncovered will leave to go-to a payday. There is 0 chance anyone of our talents coaches or athletes stay at this point. I expect canham to head back to the mariners or head coach at a school that will pay him more. Loyalty is only one layer of paint deep anymore. Every single sports team has seen major attrition since the end of this year's season why would baseball be different?! Oh because it's still in season and it hurts to think it won't be ? Hold onto that when the transfers start you can act shocked. I'd also note baseball is the ultimate you'll play for anybody you have to sport. Single A - pros how many uniforms wouldn't you normally wear? So the likely hood the super talented beavers wouldn't all be of the mindset of I'll play with anyone anywhere to get mine. I think it is wise to remember Smith and the others when we talk about Beaver baseball. None of us has the inside sources to know what Canham and the players are thinking, so it’s all speculation tainted with hopes and desires. Assuming the coaching staff remains, then the exodus we will see will come from players who aren’t playing or aren’t making the progress they need to secure the starting position. So I might worry about kids like Trosky or Talt, who are good enough to start on other teams. We’ve seen that kind of movement before. After reading Willy’s post, I’m rooting like hell for the Mariners to win, so that they don’t need a new coach. I don’t think we would lose Canham to another university. Corvallis is a comfortable place and the Beavers are a top team year in and year out. But if Canham leaves, I think the floodgates would open, and I have no idea who would be the next man up. One thing you can count on though is that we will be replacing Canham one day. Hopefully by then Meckler will be able to fill the position. Lol Could Late Nate be waiting in the wings???

I think in baseball it is going to be hard to have a deep bench like we have now due to playing time. We have a bunch of talent that may not want to wait for their chance to Wally Pipp somebody.

I think Trosky is the ss in 2025. Great defense, hits for average, table setter.

I'm putting you on a "Mitchy Slick" warning. I am confused as to what you mean. There was at least 3 "Mitchy Slick" references in your last novella. That is borderline obscene/malicious. If you don't change your ways, you'll end up on double secret probation. 🙂

Mitch Canham always sounds so antiseptic.
