Maybe some fans will issue an announcement: After careful consideration I have decided not to attend the banquet. Please support my decision as I embark on a different journey that evening. I'll always hold previous banquets in a special place in my heart.

And the five who are staying. Are we supposed to shun them also? I've never gone due to conflicts but I think I will be there this time just to let those five know how much I appreciate them.

I expect that the 5 are smart enough to realize that the poor attendance will not be a reflection on them, but rather a message sent to the Exodus Eight and, at least in my case, to women's college basketball players in general.

Just don't invite the portal women to the banquet. They made their choices, after much careful consideration, to remove themselves from the program. It would be incredibly awkward for the coaching staff if they showed up.
To paraphrase Bo Schembechler: "Oregon State women will attend the Oregon State banquet."

I think they could just hold this banquet in a booth at Elmer’s with the number of players that are left.

This is a lift from the Niagara U. sports board - it's about men's basketball, but I found it somewhat relevant: "I had a beer at the airport in Seoul with a college professor from Ohio University. Sports came up. He said that teaching athletes at the schools now is impossible. Most do not show up. Most do not care. He said the amount of money flowing from businesses to these athletes is wild. There are several athletes on campus who make more than he does. I asked him if it was private money or businesses who were funding the NIL stuff. He said at OU mostly local businesses. Bars, fast food places. He said even local hair and nail salons are paying women athletes to promote things." There's some talk on this board, wondering if the eight (or some of them) are even still in Corvallis. Umm, don't they still have school? Or do they just bag it at this point, as in, who cares? According to the song below, money changes everything. Hard as I (didn't) look, I couldn't find a song about a P5 school being left behind in the dust.

All the more reason to go and support. OK, how about doing it this way? 8 out of 13 (61.5%) from the team being celebrated have quit the team and, presumably, will not attend. So, since 61.5% of the team will have bailed, an equal percentage of those who would normally attend will portal off to something else that evening- in my case, book club.
