I know I’m a broken record here but it's very apparent the flow of this lineup is different without McDowell, Caraway, Kasper. It changes the whole dynamic of the lineup. We have depth off the bench but when certain guys aren’t protected the holes start to show. Obviously having May limited right now hurts as well but this lineup can be picked apart and without those 3 guys it’s not as potent of an offense. Can’t rely on Bazzana going nuclear every game. Agree with this big time. To the point, I would put Talt in for Krieg and go a little more small ball....plus the big guy could use a game or two off to get out of his funk. Hopefully McDowell back soon and won't be such an issue and I appreciate Reeder is good in the field, but we need Talt's offensive ability in the lineup with the other guys out.

Not having three big bats available has not cost us yet, until tonight. I thought Bazana beat the throw back to first, that was a killer. Having our Friday night guy back and effective is great news for us down the road. If I remember correctly, in 2017 when we went 26-4 in league play we lost a game to USC that we felt like we shouldn't have. It happens, hope the bats come out smacking it tomorrow. 27-3 in Pac-12 play. Oregon State lost to USC at Goss in 2017. USC went on top early on two unearned runs after a Cadyn Grenier throwing error. 4-2 in the fifth. But Oregon State came back to lead 5-4. Eisert gave up a walk and one-out double to knot the game back up at five in the eighth. Mully allowed three of the first four runners to reach in the 10th and then gave up a two-run single to put Oregon State in a hole. Gretler reached in the bottom of the 10th, but Rutschman grounded into a game-ending double-play. 7-5 USC. It was Fehm's second-to-last start before the Corvallis Super Regional. Rasmussen took over Fehm's starts from there until the Corvallis Super Regional.

Well pitched game by USC. Beavers pitched well with May and Keljo. USC just played a little better game. Our back end of the pen gave up way too many free passes. That easily could've been more like a 6-1 score. I love Bazz, but how the hell do you get picked off at 1st with the bags full in front of you?

Oh, look another breaking ball! Another breaking ball! Look at that a breaking ball on the outside. Will Guerra ever see another FB?
Clearly the way to handle this Junk Baller is get set and swing as hard as you can. Try to turn your a just bit and hope the Bat finds the ball. Look down field while the Catcher throws the ball back to the Pitcher. Of course you can use the advanced method and just stand there and watch the breaking ball.

Guerra, Krieg, Smith, and Reeder all had tough days swatting at breaking balls.
It was hard to watch at times.

The kryptonite for the Beavers is the pitcher who can paint the edges of the zone and changes speeds well, but this is true for most teams. The one saving grace is that most teams don’t have many pitchers who can do this on a consistent basis. It was just plain ugly last night in that regard. Damned, who would have thought just over a year ago that the Beavers desperately need a healthy Micah to be an elite team.

as much good as he as done for us, Bazzana really hurt us with his antics in 1B.

You aren't going to cause the pitcher to balk, since you don't have your feet firmly entrenched into the ground when you land to give yourself a good break if you do try to steal a base, so why worry about the base runner? Should the pitcher make a pick off attempt while you're in mid-air, you're out. But hey, whatever sells tickets I suppose.

I believe its more of a bad habit he picked up growing up playing the game, and never suffered the consequences for it.

This Millenium, Oregon State has only dropped two games outside of the State of Oregon on March 28th. 2013 was the first and 2024 was the second. Oregon State was 21-2 entering both games and walked off the field both times 21-3. Frank Pflugradt was an infield umpire in both games. Both games featured a solo shot by Oregon State's six-hitter and the other team only hit one home run.The reason for the loss in 2013 was the worst defensive performance by any Oregon State baseball team since 2011, five errors leading to five unearned runs. In 2013, Oregon State responded to win the game on Good Friday but dropped the rubber game on Holy Saturday to lose the series. The Beavers would only lose one more series en route to the College World Series. So crazy.

We scored 45 runs last week without Caraway and Kasper. Well aware. My point was that there are holes in the lineup and a team that game plans correctly can expose those holes. With those guys it’s a more dynamic/complete lineup. When a pitcher has to worry about 7-8 guys instead of just not letting 2-4 guys beat you it’s a different story. Scoring 45 runs against a Washington team who throws predominantly FB’s in plus counts is what should happen regardless of who we have in the lineup.
