The thing about going to the WCC is that it's most likely not a permanent situation for the program but it might be for a lot of the current players if it goes for two years. But how much difference would it really make? When it comes down to it, the move mostly means having to adjust to a different type of schedule where you will probably have to try to schedule a lot of stronger programs for nonconference games. It didn't hurt Gonzaga this season. Made the Sweet 16. So there's no reason that, if the Beavers stay together, they can't get a decent seed and do well in the tournament next year.

Gonzaga got a #4 seed, a home regional, and also got to play in Portland.
If this team stays together and wins the WCC, there is no downside. None. We will be ranked. We'll get to play our conference tournament in Las Vegas, We'll get a 3 or 4 seed and get a home regional. Exact same thing we got this year.

Gonna be lot's of interest from P5 teams in poaching a bunch of our players (and even coaches)

If Scott can put together a really, really good non-conference schedule and we even have a non-conference game or two during WCC play (I believe UConn WBB does this), there’s no reason we shouldn’t be able to compete for a host spot.
But count me as one who will be worried about losing Beers, Gardiner, and von Oelhoffen until the portal closes.

First, I think the majority of the interest would be focused on Beers, Gardiner and maybe Hunter. TVO has one year of eligibility remaining and she's been fairly outspoken when it comes to sticking with OSU in the past. I just don't see Beers even considering a change. Same with Hunter. And Gardiner actually might be the player that gets the most interest but I would doubt she's inclined to make a move. The fact that this group is so close and have now experienced a pretty high level of success actually works in favor of staying together. The grass isn't greener somewhere else as far as those two aspects. I think a lot of fans worry because of what happens in football and men's basketball. IMO, college women's basketball is not quite the same when it comes to a lot of players being brought in through NIL deals. There just isn't a ton of LSUs out there.

We're going to finish this season ranked in the top ten, and, everybody comes back, we're going to have a preseason top 5 or so ranking. We can certainly maintain that by scheduling, and beating, some top 20 teams in the pre-conference part of the schedule. We can be a 2 seed fairly handily I think. With respect to the portal, I just don't think we're going to get hurt much there as I've explained in previous posts. If anything, we'll gain more from it than we lose.

Absolutely HAVE to have a strong OOC schedule, and then you need to win some of those games. This is the first year GU has hosted in quite a while, and they've been dominating the WCC for years.

Is there any reason we shouldn't have the goal of being a 1-seed next year? I think this team, assuming it stays as is, will be a top, top team IN THE COUNTRY, regardless of conference affiliation. Same as UConn has historically been. If we schedule some tough OOC games as you've all been saying, and win them, and take care of business in the WCC, why wouldn't we be a #1 seed? Is there any reason we shouldn't expect to be undefeated in the WCC games next year? Let's schedule respectable OOC games, but games we can/should win and run the table in the WCC!

Yep, I agree on the strong OOC schedule. And OSU is in a little bit of a different situation given that the Beavers played in the Pac-12 this season, got a 3 seed and made the Elite Eight. Assuming they stay together and wind up with few losses on the season, they will absolutely get a good seed.

I'm not sure a #2 seed is "a lot" better than # 3, since if you keep winning from either spot you avoid #1 until the regional final. It is better than a # 4, no question.

The big reason why we ended up where we did is stumbling down the stretch when Rae was out. If ahe is with the team I am not sure they lose to the fuskies and maybe sqeak out the stanford game. Hell maybe they get the split with sc? Ready for the 24-25 season right now!!!!

In the second round, a 2 seed plays a 7 seed instead of a 6 seed. Historically, I think that's a lot more advantageous, although I readily confess I don't have the stats at hand - and I know Ohio State was a 2 seed this year.

I don't know how many times, but it has been often, that our WBB players have been outspoken about playing in Gill in front of Beaver Nation. Not sure there is greener grass somewhere else for the current team members. Not to mention a better coaching staff and teammates.
