Hard to score a lot of points with guards who struggled to make shots. UConn and South Carolina's guards are all five-stars and McDonald's All-Americans. TVO was ranked No. 25 nationally in her class. Hunter was a four star and is now going to be highly sought after as a PG. Not sure she was a problem on offense when she did shoot. SR chose to play Marotte as much as he did (although he did cut it down later in the season). He chose not to play Adlee all that much. Lily is a 3-point shooter and she did very well in that role. Maybe not having much of a game plan to speak of (or at least an inability to get the players to execute one) other than pounding the ball inside to Beers was a problem. Hunter - 41.6%, von Oelhoffen - 38.7%, Marotte - 36.7%, Blacklock - 37.6%. Aside from Lily and Dom who were efficient on the wings - our guards were pretty inefficient this season. Compare that to Pivec, Slocum, Weisner, Goodman, Wiese, etc. Aside from Talia, none of our guards were highly recruited or ranked. Lily, Adlee, and Dom weren't even top-100 recruits. IMO, our talent on the perimeter simply didn't match up to UConn or South Carolina's.

At what point do you expect Scott to make a comment. He probably has the answer unless he is out of town doing something else. Crickets…. Beavdowg,
In regards to your above comment about the staring 5 leaving, have I missed players going to the portal that I do not know about. I had thought that Talia, Timea, and Adlee had portaled. Are there others that I have missed?
Well, Dono and Lily are in the portal now. I know Lily wasn't a starter. When I said "our starting 5" I meant that it felt like all 5 of them had entered the portal and it's 3 out of the 5 at this point with everyone expecting Beers to follow. Really disappointing!

No chance beers stays unfortunately. 02 what in the heck happened? How did this all fall apart so quickly? It can't JUST be the WCC thing can it? There are multiple factors. WCC, NIL, player satisfaction, player development.

I'm leaning toward the "they don't want to play in a lesser conference" point of view.
With the loss of Talia & Donovan the opportunity for playing time would have been great for Adlee and Lily. In my mind, I thought they would be the players MOST likely to stay because both would likely be starters from Day One next season.
It's obvious that we are trying to solve a puzzle for which none of us, at the moment, have sufficient information to provide a completely sensible answer.
Until the players provide candid and believable explanations about WHY they are leaving, outsiders like us will remain in the dark. GO BEAVS!!

Who is staying? Looking forward to supporting them. How many fans are staying to watch the JV team play? Oh no, a negative post!! Well, show me the positives of this team now? C'mon man!!! Yes, I'll still be a Beaver but won't be spending $$ to watch this team again until they have a team>>>really sad, sad state of the program, near rock bottom...I'd be REALLY surprised if SR is the problem, maybe a club house issue??

They can build a decent team around Beers IF she stays. Dom would be big as well. Otherwise, lots of new faces. No chance beers stays unfortunately. Then what is the point of dragging this out? It creates false hope. If there is no chance, when was there ever a chance?

If you know more I'm sure we'd all like some more detailed explanation. Thank you in advance! The coaches do a great job. Talented girls with high expectations are hard to coach and keep happy. The WCC isn't what they signed up for, money is absolutely a Factor for at least 3 or 4 of them. Others like Adlee just didn't get the opportunities she was hoping for. When building a team, it's really hard to put together the right mix. The hardest part about this year is that they were able to do that and yet everybody bailed. Going forward, they will have to adopt a new strategy around getting kids who have a reason to want to stay and development. Coaches will need to spend as much time pouring into the person as the player. High level basketball players have spent their life building for these 4 years, they will not stay somewhere that doesn't check a lot of boxes for them.

My point was that Rueck's all defense all of the time focus potentially drags down the offense. TVO too often underperformed as a scorer. Hunter was running the point very well and showed flashes of being able to attack the basket along with hitting 3s. If anything, she should have been encouraged to attack the basket more frequently. Blacklock never had a chance to get a rhythm going like she did in the last chunk of games in 2022-23. Again, Marotte played during stretches when it was all too evident she was not going to make shots.

And as Lily bails, I would add this: When looking at the situation, it's obvious that the players did not like the idea of playing in the WCC. Yet it is a fact that the group was just an Elite Eight team and ranked in the top 10 with everyone eligible to return. They are choosing to break up the team and in doing so, choosing a path away from what on paper should be a chance at a Final Four or better run. That is a choice that is, in a sense, self-defeating from a team membership standpoint. Those who want a similar situation moving forward will have to be picked up by a South Carolina or UConn. To be honest, it's a very heavily weighted choice. That's why, to me, there has to be more to the story here. Maybe Rueck has something to do with it, maybe not. Maybe it's something more along the lines of the players did not feel that Oregon State's administration had their backs with the WCC move or in general. Maybe they felt their voices fell on deaf ears or something like that. Let's all just settle on... "There is never one reason..." One may weigh heavier than the others, but there are always multiple factors involved. And, one is always about who is leaving and the door being opened to "ok" my leaving too. But, speculating about all the possibilities for each individual player is... well a waste of space on here. Again post whatever, but actually thinking you know what these players are thinking/doing is fool's play. In my book it actually boils down to "WTFC". Unless leaving is highly based on a coach's actions (LaVonda) then I do not care for the reasons or about where they go and how they do. Next season will come and I will NEVER lament the players that left or what could have been. As, seasons are never predictable. I'll never give former players the "power" to influence my support/thoughts about a current team by imagining what never happened. I know all this crap is "newsworthy"... but, as always the sky is not falling. OSU will field teams and we will all support them. I just hope the majority of posts in the future will be about those teams/players and not the "poor us" victim's laments of how OSU got screwed and look where we are now. Those future teams/players that represent OSU in the "24-25 seasons are owed that much by fans. Of course until they are not... next portal season!

Things are about to get interesting. Scott will turn this thing around this season. He did it ever year at GFU. He's a master at rebuilding WBB team/programs. No worried. We lived in Newberg when he won his National Championship, that was a total rebuilt team. So, yes I grieve the Girls who have left OSU. They are a very likable bunch. So, don't count us out. Things are about to improve around here within the next couple of week when the talent tide Scott recruits come in.

One of the most underrated coaches in NCAAW. Such an eye for talent too. Will take a couple of years but we’ll be back to making deep runs in the tournament again. If he leaves though… Still sucks this era is finished.
