Eh, gray, I, personally, feel that's an oversimplification of what's going on in Corvallis. These girls were top tier recruits with a high basketball IQ with multiple programs after them. They knew what they were getting themselves into as far as SR's style. Their parents, their club team coaches, and other team's coaches recruiting them, I'm sure, knew what playing for SR would be like. And, if they didn't know coming in, they certainly would know after their freshman year. Especially after this year and the success they've had! If they weren't about defense they should of seen how far it can take you. I just wish a past player or an insider would give us something to go off of. Sitting here watching our starting 5 leave and not knowing why is brutal! The whole damn thing is brutal and infuriorating!

He probably has the answer unless he is out of town doing something else. Crickets….

I'm pretty sure Dawn Staley and Geno Auriemma also are very focused on defense in their coaching styles. While Geno has seen plenty of players leave his program over the years, it's almost never the stars of the team. And plenty still lining up to play for him. And Dawn is pretty much the It coach right now who almost everybody wants to play for. She's had an exceptional retention rate as well.

I have never signed up for something or joined an activity or group, whatever, thinking that it would be fun and coming in with my own idea of what it would be like only to discover I didn't like it or it just wasn't what I thought it would be and then gone out of my way to tell everyone who would listen what a GREAT EXPERIENCE AND LOVING FAMILY IT IS, and then bail. We have all been had. Snake oil was sold and we bought it.
Glove - I am with you. I am a Beaver. You are either with us or against us. I have no desire to see those who bail on their teammates, supporters, coaches and fans succeed. I don't have to wish them ill, but I sure as he!! don't have to wish them well.

I asked him how HE was doing, and he said, "Hanging in there." No implications, just a common expression when the brown stuff hits the fan.

Sitting here watching our starting 5 leave and not knowing why is brutal! The whole damn thing is brutal and infuriorating! I'm not oversimplifying it. I'm not even clear-cut with my own opinion of Rueck and his philosophy. I believe that great defense generally leads to success and Rueck's success points to that. I also believe that it can lead to a degradation of the offense if the right balance is not struck and the fact that this team was middle of the road in the Pac-12 on offense points a little in that direction. It's not just that OSU was 6th overall and 7th in Pac-12 only games but that the other top teams in the Pac-12 ranked high in both categories. I'm not sure that is sustainable but it worked out this year for OSU. Rueck mentioned the buy-in that the players supposedly had in the program. Maybe some decided it was easier to buy into a more offense-friendly program and they want to get out and push the ball more, whatever. I also implied that Rueck's personality and/or coaching style might not be seen the same way by all the players. Again, I do believe going to the WCC is a factor. But all the we're so close, we're a family, I love my team going out the window even with the very strong prospects for the team had it stayed together just seems like it doesn't begin and end with the WCC.

In regards to your above comment about the staring 5 leaving, have I missed players going to the portal that I do not know about. I had thought that Talia, Timea, and Adlee had portaled. Are there others that I have missed?

Best case 2024-25 scenario: Beavs have Kennedie, Dom and Kelsie to build off of.
Still could be competitive in WCC. Anything less than those three....not fun.

Actually called her out as having a great future. I’m sure there will be plenty of top talent wanting to play for her, but makes one wonder…

I’m interested to see where she lands, though.

And as Lily bails, I would add this: When looking at the situation, it's obvious that the players did not like the idea of playing in the WCC. Yet it is a fact that the group was just an Elite Eight team and ranked in the top 10 with everyone eligible to return. They are choosing to break up the team and in doing so, choosing a path away from what on paper should be a chance at a Final Four or better run. That is a choice that is, in a sense, self-defeating from a team membership standpoint. Those who want a similar situation moving forward will have to be picked up by a South Carolina or UConn. To be honest, it's a very heavily weighted choice. That's why, to me, there has to be more to the story here. Maybe Rueck has something to do with it, maybe not. Maybe it's something more along the lines of the players did not feel that Oregon State's administration had their backs with the WCC move or in general. Maybe they felt their voices fell on deaf ears or something like that.
