Caitlin Clark and Cameron Brink both technically have a year left (I think)...so well...you know it could happen...ask the person who won the $1.3B lottery

It isn’t important that I understand, I know. I just wish I DID. Very disappointed. Again…..can the “family” s%#t just STOP. No one in my family would make the decision to quit on us…..NO MATTER the reason/circumstances. s%#t.

Family schmamily. They've all been feeding us a load of BS and our sucker of a fanbase swallowed it hook, line and sinker. Real families don't quit as the first sigh of adversity. Unfortunately this was never a real family. It was a manufactured family, a metaphorical family. Nice identity while it lasted, but lately not so much. All I know is that I will truly miss watching Timea play basketball at OSU. As will I. One of the best players ever to play for the Beavers and only in her 2nd year.

I don't blame them for leaving, but I do think it's bad decision. As UConn has shown, what conference you are in is irrelevant. As long as you play and beat enough ranked teams you will gain a ranking yourself and get to play in March Madness. And this team had a real chance at a Natty.
I don't know if Timea really needs money, or can't stand the thought of another year of Rueck etc. But long term this is a bad decision financially.
Next year if she plays with Beers I think she will be an All-American and maybe win a Championship. She then goes into the transfer pool and folks who want their school to win the title will be eager to give her a LOT more money.
If she transfers she will go through the same thing that Brown talked about. It takes a year to get out of the OSU mindset on offense and defense and being able to play well with the new team.
Do I blame anyone for going into the transfer portal? Of course not. But do I think it's a smart thing to transfer at this point? Speaking strictly in a self centered financial sense it's not a good choice. But if it's for some other reason that's only known to them that's not something I could speak on.

That is basically only because of Gonzaga. Without them the WCC is practically like the Big Sky or Big West in womens hoops. Better in mens hoops, but still they would have almost none of the accomplishments you highlighted above without the Zags. So that means they don't count? Gonzaga is in the league. That alone makes the league respectable, never mind the accomplishments of St. Mary's. The Pac-12 would have three NCAA men's basketball championships without UCLA. Does that mean we can't count 14 titles?
Was the AAC a good conference when the UConn women were part of it? No, it was junk, that happened to have one really good team.

I was waiting for the dust to settle, but I agree with 02beav on one point. Pace. Basketball players are athletes that have to instantly transition offense to defense and back as quickly as possible throughout a game. Every position must do this. This is unlike other sports except soccer and lacrosse. Thinking must be minimized to let muscle memory take over. Jack Ramsey's first move when the other team scored was to not let the ball hit the floor as it went through the net. He wanted transition to begin that soon. Putting pressure on the defense with your offense as soon as possible. Pressure basketball as coach by Ralph Miller also wanted that inbound pass in as quick as possible and often as far as the hash marks up the floor, not a specific guard 5 feet in front of you with a defender on them that needed to be screened to get the receiver open. Watching the tournament the biggest difference I see between OSU and those ahead of us is the desire to get the ball across the mid-court line as quickly as possible, and that is usually by passing not dribbling. Without attacks in ball movement and player movement without the ball, the easy baskets from breaks and defensive lapses don't happen as often. In today's game a team has to get several easy baskets in a game to make the difference. It's like Schonz said "you have to make your free throws". Easy points. The women on this year's team showed how athletic they are. There were fast breaks that ignored looking at SR for a play. Dom used her international experience to play a faster game than what would be normal for an SR team. Her success made SR look the other way and accept what she brought outside the box. Even Beers led a couple of fast breaks against Easter Washington when they tried full court pressure. The passing was great up the floor with little dribbling. SR gets an A+ from me for being one of the best basketball talent evaluators and culture coaches in the game. A couch B+. If he would just take himself out of playing the point guard from the sidelines and let the athletes play, he wouldn't need to play half court with a full court team. Please point out to me which of the final four teams coaches didn't direct their team? I will give you a hint, they all did. I'll tell you one coach that lets his team play. Graves. And now go ask Duck fans what they think of his sitting on his rear while his team gets it's rear handed to them.

It was pretty good when it started up though. Louisville was very good (made the final the year before) and Rutgers and South Florida were solid.

First covid, then the portal, nil and finally being dumped on by the judas 10. Apparently a legitimate chance at a final four or even better is not enough to keep the team together.

And had our team stayed together, the WCC would have two top teams. UConn played in the AAC from 2014-19. In that span the AAC never had fewer than two NCAA tournament berths. In 2019 and 2017 it had three. In 2015 it had four. So yes, the AAC certainly was a respectable conference when UConn belonged. UConn (and Gonzaga) have proved you can have an outstanding program, even if you don't play in a power conference. We will be in the WCC next year, and perhaps the year after that as well. The WCC threw us a lifeline when our own "friends" of more than 100 years s%#t on us. I prefer to accentuate the positive aspects of our next home, not trash it and its members.

NIL and the transfer portal has turned college athletes into mercenaries willing to play for the highest bidder, it is going to kill the golden goose (fans) when players have zero attachment to the University. Long gone are the traditional aspirations of “I came here to win a championship” “I came here for the coach” “I came here because I love the University”…… all of that is out the door, it’s all about money… period. I just wonder if these young gals have the wisdom to see that leaving a University for $50-100k now is such a miniscule amount of money compared to the lifelong memories, relationships, potential Final Fours and Championships that were headed their way. I’m 60 years old and I can tell you with certainty, it is not.

Nevertheless, these women have parents from whom they get input. Some parents (ahem) may be looking for a quick payday also. C'est le vie, say the old folks, it goes to show you never can tell. All apologies to Chuck Berry.
