The WCC is not the Pac-12 but it is certainly not a "second-tier" athletic league. BYU played in this league for a decade or so; its men's teams never won a championship and its women's team only won three. BYU has a far-superior MBB program than we do. The WCC has had at least one team in the NCAA men's Sweet 16 for the past nine seasons; it's had two championship-game appearances and five Elite-8 appearances. That far surpasses the performance of the Pac-12. That is basically only because of Gonzaga. Without them the WCC is practically like the Big Sky or Big West in womens hoops. Better in mens hoops, but still they would have almost none of the accomplishments you highlighted above without the Zags. So that means they don't count? Gonzaga is in the league. That alone makes the league respectable, never mind the accomplishments of St. Mary's. The Pac-12 would have three NCAA men's basketball championships without UCLA. Does that mean we can't count 14 titles?

Family schmamily. They've all been feeding us a load of BS and our sucker of a fanbase swallowed it hook, line and sinker. Real families don't quit as the first sigh of adversity.

Timea officially entering the portal. IMO this either gets the avalanche going or it's basically the extent of the major damage. We will see.

This has been brought up recently but our more recent top recruits (other than talia) lasted two years - brown, Taylor, Greta, gardiner. ...maybe others). What's the deal with two years?

Unfortunately this was never a real family. It was a manufactured family, a metaphorical family. Nice identity while it lasted, but lately not so much. All I know is that I will truly miss watching Timea play basketball at OSU.

Greta was…not good. Timea, Raegan, Talia, and others didn’t sign up to play in the WCC, and Kennedy and Taylor clearly weren’t happy. Feel for Rueck who invested a ton of time into recruiting players like Timea since 7th/8th grade for them to leave for reasons out of his control, but I also don’t blame them for leaving.

I know it's men's vs women's but you have to give Mark Few alot of credit. Year after year he is able to attract top notch high school and transfer talent and at the same time losing very little to transfer outs all while playing in the wcc. Hey OSU women if the goal is to win the whole thing you'd be better off sticking together then going your own directions. Lisa Fortier doesn’t attract top talent, but the way she’s had very few transfers is really impressive. Of course it’s different because her players signed up to play in the WCC, but to she’s kept some really good players around for all four (or five, recently) years. I was looking forward to seeing our players battle Ejim inside.

Gotta be a factor. PAC12 breaks apart: 4 schools go to Big10; 4 schools go to Big12; 2 schools go to ACC; 2 schools go to WCC. So unfortunate!

Finally someone got the message. You’re not a “Beav for Life” when you only stay 2 years. Get the f%#* out and don’t let the door hit your ass on the way.

I was waiting for the dust to settle, but I agree with 02beav on one point. Pace. Basketball players are athletes that have to instantly transition offense to defense and back as quickly as possible throughout a game. Every position must do this. This is unlike other sports except soccer and lacrosse. Thinking must be minimized to let muscle memory take over.
Jack Ramsey's first move when the other team scored was to not let the ball hit the floor as it went through the net. He wanted transition to begin that soon. Putting pressure on the defense with your offense as soon as possible. Pressure basketball as coach by Ralph Miller also wanted that inbound pass in as quick as possible and often as far as the hash marks up the floor, not a specific guard 5 feet in front of you with a defender on them that needed to be screened to get the receiver open.
Watching the tournament the biggest difference I see between OSU and those ahead of us is the desire to get the ball across the mid-court line as quickly as possible, and that is usually by passing not dribbling. Without attacks in ball movement and player movement without the ball, the easy baskets from breaks and defensive lapses don't happen as often. In today's game a team has to get several easy baskets in a game to make the difference. It's like Schonz said "you have to make your free throws". Easy points.
The women on this year's team showed how athletic they are. There were fast breaks that ignored looking at SR for a play. Dom used her international experience to play a faster game than what would be normal for an SR team. Her success made SR look the other way and accept what she brought outside the box. Even Beers led a couple of fast breaks against Easter Washington when they tried full court pressure. The passing was great up the floor with little dribbling.
SR gets an A+ from me for being one of the best basketball talent evaluators and culture coaches in the game. A couch B+. If he would just take himself out of playing the point guard from the sidelines and let the athletes play, he wouldn't need to play half court with a full court team.
