Very sad. As loyal a guy as there ever was and him and Fi were surrogate parents to a lot of beaver hoopers.

Made a great lieutenant for Ralph, good 'buffer' and recruiter of the kind of players that could be successful under 'Old Whiskey Sour'. Wish he had gone off on his own in the mid 80's to learn how to run his own program so he'd have (theoretically) more success as the head man when Ralph retired.

Jimmy was truly a great guy and a Beaver through and through till the day he died. My condolences to Fifi and his children and grandkids.
Maybe not the greatest head coach in the world, but a quality person, through and through.

Jimmy has had his share of medical issues so his passing isn’t a surprise. Truly a fine man, good human being and a damn fine Beaver. RIP Jimmy.

I lived in Seattle in the early 90s after graduation. They asked Gary Payton in one of the local newspapers who should replace Jimmy Anderson when his final season concludes, and he responded "Jimmy Anderson". Speaks volumes on how well he connected with his players. RIP coach.

Dang. I sat next to him at a Civil War hoop game. What a great experience. He most definitely knew the game of basketball. RIP Coach!

Yeah for so long it seemed like he didn't age- always looked like the same old Jimmy. But then this season I saw the cameras panned to him on a broadcast and I hardly recognized him. Age took him fast it seems, as it does all of us I suppose if we're lucky enough.
I know people were pretty hard on him, and yeah maybe he wasn't an amazing head coach, but in this day and age of NIL, big money, and ephemeral ties to an institution, he was always a breath of fresh air for his earnestness and continued loyalty to the program, its coaches and players that came after him..... He sure loved Oregon State, and sounds like truly one of the good guys in this world. A sad day.

A quality person. He was the good cop that perfectly complimented Ralph the bad cop. I had heard that when players were pissed at Ralph, they would go to Jimmy, and he would talk them off the ledge. A true players coach, which may have been why he didn't succeed as a head coach.
