They still almost won because they pulled him. If you’re one of the top lineups in the country you can’t come out and set the record for strikeouts against anybody. They didn’t seem to make any adjustments. Thats my concern. I think the 2017/18 teams would’ve found ways to get on and get to the pitcher. Bazzana going down 3 times was painful. He has to lead the way with adjustments. I remember Rutschman was the only runner to reach in the 4.1 innings that Caden O'Brien pitched back in 2018 College World Series against North Carolina. Oregon State got four runners on over the first four innings. Couldn't do anything with any of the four, though. I would remind everyone that Chris Coskey, who was the home plate umpire tonight, was the second base umpire, who screwed up that call on Rutschman in Game 1 of the 2018 College World Series Championship Series. It should have been Oregon State up 2-0 with a runner on first and one out. Instead it was 1-0 and a runner on third with two outs. Coskey was the right field umpire in Game Three in 2018, but I do not think that Oregon State has seen him since. I would also add that Coskey made a similarly bad, though nowhere near as bad, call in the second Mississippi State game back in 2013. The dude seems to enjoy calling Beavs out, when the Beavs play SEC teams.

Really concerning about May. He was looking very good......like a legit Friday night guy.
I saw on a Beavs FB page (so take that fwiw) that he was crying in the dugout. The logical conclusion would be he knows he's done, right? Anyway, it's all speculation until we know, but we also have history with these kind of things.

We are still loaded but those are two of the toughest guys to cover for.

Thats my concern. I think the 2017/18 teams would’ve found ways to get on and get to the pitcher. Bazzana going down 3 times was painful. He has to lead the way with adjustments. I love that. They have to make “adjustments.” Have you guys ever faced a projected first round pick with a 98-100 mile per hour fastball? The guy is a stud and had a legendary game. Our guys were overmatched by him tonight. Tip your cap to him and move on to the next game. We are a top ten team in the country without a doubt. Teams lose in baseball, it happens. Top ten LSU lost at home to Stony Brook 5-2. Top ten Clemson lost at home to Kennesaw State 18-1. We lost by one run to the number two team in the country and couldn’t hit for six innings. I think we will be fine. Nobody is happy with that many K’s, especially the Beaver coaches and players. But I’m sure they agree that their pitcher is damn good and honestly just shoved it against us tonight, he kicked our ass no ifs/ands about it. But this is a team game. Once he was out it immediately became a really good game and we almost won. I like our chances in a series against those guys. If you remember in 2018, Arkansas’ ace beat us in game one to go 14-0 on the season, a remarkable accomplishment. But we went out and won the next two. An ace can only do so much, as we showed tonight. It was one game, and he pitched brilliantly. I’d love another crack at them later in the season. I guess it was in my mind because of your post suggesting that this team might have the best offense ever. Even with the best offense ever, we set a new ugly record and no one had any answers. I think it's natural to think about that and wonder why, especially with the number 3 prospect losing his battles each time.
Yes, it happens. Yes, it's baseball. And yes, this is an internet message board.

When you get to match ups at the highest level of prospects it's pretty common for the pitcher to win. Same thing happens in the MLB. It was telling that Baz trashed the next pitcher he faced immediately.

I agree with you. It was ugly for six innings of one game in February. But remember, even our amazing 2018 team lost a series to lowly Utah. And believe me, I also was asking myself last night, “why are we looking like such s%#t right now at the plate?” But ultimately I think the simple answer was, that guy is just freakin really good and he was flat out better than us on that given night. I’m not going to overthink it much beyond that. I still believe this will end as our 1st or 2nd best offense ever.

Game's over. But, OSU has faced a lot, A LOT, of highly talented pitchers and never K'd 17 times. Hagen is one of the best pitchers in the country. OSU made him look like a MLB starter. He's a college Jr that came in with an ERA of 27.00 facing 7 batters in 1 inning vs James Madison. He's seen his low and high in just two starts. He had a great night, OSU was bad. I'm betting neither will be as great or as bad the remainder of the season. I have heard that the weather was very bad in the James Madison game and was messing with his pitches, so they shut him down early. It is very telling that he was able to pitch to his potential in a dome. If it were not a domed stadium, I bet that you would have seen a much more Beaversesque result.

Hearing we should be seeing quite a few Hog fans will be attendance for our Michigan game.

The Oklahoma State 3B just dropped a foul ball in much the same way that Caraway dropped the pop-up last night. The dome either gives a deceptive look or there is some weird air current or two young guys misjudged in identical ways. Anyway, I like Oklahoma State going to extra innings.

It’s very difficult to pick up the ball. We sat on the baseline yesterday, and we lost the ball a couple times on the pop flys

Arkansas with two one run wins this week, and one, one run loss. They scored 5 runs on Friday, 1 run yesterday, and 4 runs today. Great 2-1 week for them, but their offense didn’t look like anything special. Definitely appear to be a pitching dominant team.
