Well that ending wasn’t ideal. I will say I haven’t noticed any quit with the team. Unfortunately, just not enough fire power in this team. Missed the lead in/beginning of game. Were Wright and/or Rochelin hurt. Noticed they didn’t play. Also realized Ndong hasn’t played in at least last few games. What’s his status. Ndong got hurt about 3 weeks ago. Not sure what the injury is, but he’s been in street clothes with a boot on one of his legs.

Again, you don't play it all at once. Either come to a negotiated lump-sum settlement or continue to pay him month-by-month. OSU's financial responsibility will reduced by any salary he takes in subsequent jobs. There's a good chance we don't end up paying him anywhere near $8.7 million. I hate firing coaches. But I see no hope at this point and it's a disservice to what fans remain to keep an underperforming coach. Dude who in their right mind would hire him? We have to pay the full buyout per year unless he signs a new deal, and that ain’t happening. He would easily get a job, either as an assistant or as a coach in the Big Sky or some similar league. College basketball staffs are full of former head coaches, most of whom never got a team to an Elite 8. I think we'd have a good chance with a negotiated buyout. A nice lump sum, or payments spread out over 4-5 years for tax purposes. Maybe he's ready to enjoy some free time and watch his kids coach/play,

I turned it off at halftime. I really enjoyed watching the beavers play in the first half, they rebounded, moved the ball and hit open shots. Call me cynical but I had a feeling a train was coming down the tracks in the second half. And Go Cougs !

Which is so weird to me. I mean, he’s a coach, so doesn’t that mean he’s competitive? He can’t be enjoying this at all, but year after, it’s the same. The longer it goes on like this, the worse it looks for him. Is he just punching a clock, milking OSU? He has destroyed his career. Destroyed his career? He’s close to retirement age and made tens of millions of dollars. I would like to destroy my career like that. He’s still a good dude and I don’t think he’s phoning it in, but it’s definitely time for a change. Maybe Legacy is a better word.

I can't imagine many coaches wanting to do that. Do coaches coach for the money? Or for the glory? Which is the stronger impetus?

He still can hang his hat on bringing us back to the Elite 8 and another NCAA appearance. Maybe he can block out the rest. Destroying your career is a GA thing.....and even he got hired back at USU. WT didn't destroy his career.

WT didn't destroy his career. Miller retired at 70. Tinkle is 57. He's got at least 5 and maybe 10 years left. If he wants.
He has time to make a difference in a program somewhere and maybe make it back to the tournament. He's just not able to do much here.

I saw someone post something on social media that we were like 1-40 on the road/neutral sites, in the last 3 seasons, including the current one. I thought to myself, no way! That can't be true! .......I pulled up the schedules.....it's true. Gotta be close to some kind of record.

So is tinkle the main issue, or is it that he just can't get enough talent to Corvallis?
Would another coach be able to land more talent? Keep em around?

The issues that plague this team are the same ones year in and year out which really means that it's at the coaching level. He's not addressing the rebounding issue or the trouble with in-bounding in a press situation.
I think there's also a culture issue here. Guys don't hesitate to leave for different schools. That tells you something right there.
Maybe that year after the tournament run was an aberration, but it showed how little the players think of the coach. He doesn't have their hearts.

I know you can't compare women's and men's, but I will just a little..... Rueck has the culture thing down, and even when he loses a bunch of talent via the portal, he reloads. So maybe if we had a better culture around the mens program, we could have more success, even in this time of guys going to the highest bidder? I honestly haven't paid attention to the going rate of mens B ball talent on the open market......I'd imagine Pope will get some serious offers

My memory is very fuzzy, but didn’t Dennis Erickson take the Oregon State job at a very low salary because the Seahawks were essentially paying his initial salary? Tinkle could become a very low salary, quality assistant somewhere with Oregon State essentially paying most of his salary? There wouldn’t be much offset to Oregon State’s salary obligations?

He sprinkled in a 4-14 conference record in there. His went 17-29 in conference the 3 years prior to this year. The women's game is completely different. You don't have players leaving early for the pros (or very rarely) and they are not transferring as often. Most of them are truly college athletes and not just looking for a path to professional BB. It's much easier to keep players.
