When tinkle gets his players watch out. Lol. Not one player committed for next year. Sad.

It is getting hard to get excited about these games, regardless of what happens it is only a matter of time before Tinkle is gone - it is not if, but when - and we start another rebuild. I feel like a prisoner in a cell, keeping a tally on a wall.

Where will $8.7m come from if Tinkle is out? Maybe tinkle has some pride and will just walk away. 8.7 and all. One can hope.

Where will $8.7m come from if Tinkle is out? Again, you don't play it all at once. Either come to a negotiated lump-sum settlement or continue to pay him month-by-month. OSU's financial responsibility will reduced by any salary he takes in subsequent jobs. There's a good chance we don't end up paying him anywhere near $8.7 million. I hate firing coaches. But I see no hope at this point and it's a disservice to what fans remain to keep an underperforming coach.

One thing for sure tinkle will be paid not to coach. The sooner the better. If you were a recruit would you come here with tinkles future?

I gave some info a while back on firings. As stated each contract and their provisions are different.
Typically buyouts are already structured but can be negotiated. Most payouts are biannual or quarterly, and can be extended past the actual contract length. Coaches need a super good tax advisor. The tax rules governing deferred payments to employees of non-profit organizations are complex
Rules have become even more complicated all the time. Coaches may face significant personal tax liabilities or penalties from her or his compensation and post-employment payout package. So, negotiating lower, long-term settlements are often to their advantage.
Also including clauses that involve searching/applying for other coaching jobs are usually included to help offset payouts. Schools also save immediately on extra perks to the HC and staff... memberships, housing allowances, cars, extended health care, etc.
Plus the staff are typically released and depending on their contracts payouts are lump some. Typically a few will be kept until a new staff is hired.
OSU has the $, but they don't really want to use it for a firing. It maybe needed in other areas. The priority of where and if the MBB needs new blood before next season is the job of the Admin.
Bottom line, if WT is fired OSU will slowly recoup some $ over time from a new, lower salaried staff.

We have to pay the full buyout per year unless he signs a new deal, and that ain’t happening.

I mean, he’s a coach, so doesn’t that mean he’s competitive? He can’t be enjoying this at all, but year after, it’s the same. The longer it goes on like this, the worse it looks for him. Is he just punching a clock, milking OSU? He has destroyed his career.

I would like to destroy my career like that. He’s still a good dude and I don’t think he’s phoning it in, but it’s definitely time for a change.

Well that ending wasn’t ideal. I will say I haven’t noticed any quit with the team. Unfortunately, just not enough fire power in this team.
Missed the lead in/beginning of game. Were Wright and/or Rochelin hurt. Noticed they didn’t play. Also realized Ndong hasn’t played in at least last few games. What’s his status.

Is he just punching a clock, milking OSU? He has destroyed his career. I’m sure he’s competitive like all coaches. He also probably has a good sized ego like most coaches do, so probably figures he can turn it around. As for destroying his career, he’s certainly not helping it but he wasn’t going to walk away after 3-win season because of fore mentioned competitiveness and ego, and same after last year with new group that showed a little “progress.” With same type of year this year and potentially transfers out, he might be ready after this year to work out a structured buyout. Not betting on it, but could see it if he wants to have chance at resurrecting his career elsewhere. Another season like this one or worse might make that unlikely. But also have to consider does he want to go back to the boondocks to be HC or become an assistant, especially when his salary will just be deducted from buyout.
