I went to that game. USC actually built a pretty big lead (I don't remember how big) and Anderson just green-lighted Payton taking over the game. No individual on USC could do anything to stop Payton and their entire team couldn't, either. There were plays where Payton took it coast-to-coast, weaving his way in and out of the entire USC team for a layup in the trees. I don't know if it was the single most dominant performance in Pac or college history, but I can unquestionably say that I never saw anything else that came close.

Thankfully st. Johns rescinded their offer and Cal didn't show interest.

My favorite in person game. He put Baby Jordan in his place.

I remember the seats shaking, and the decibel level being unbelievable! Gill CAN BE an awesome venue to play in!

I remember the seats shaking, and the decibel level being unbelievable! Hill CAN BE an awesome venue to play in! It was still an era where students "cared" and flocked to games. Students were well up into the rafters across the way from the benches. Unfortunately not the case now... for many reasons.

Students were well up into the rafters across the way from the benches. Unfortunately not the case now... for many reasons. Yes, but in that era, they also made us students set upstairs. No students on the floor, because they wanted to sell those floor seats to season ticket holders. Also, the benches were on the student side, so in that regard, it would have been a bad move to have the students right behind the benches. Can't remember what year they moved the benches to the current side.

The LMU game when Kimble scored 51 or whatever was even better. I think we lost 117-113. They had a couple other guys (Per Stemer, Jeff Frye) who could spot-shoot the lights out. I think LMU made the Elite 8 that year. We got jobbed in SLC by Ball State.
