The NFL does not care about politics, social justice, criminals in their league....unless public perception is bad enough....then you disapear like Ray Rice when the video hit the web....Kaepernick was run out of the league because he was bad for business, period! The NFL only cares about money. Every decision they make is based on increasing revenue. The NFL is obviously going to capitalize on the Taylor swift thing. It's a no-brainer cuz she gets more eyes on sets....more merch sold.....more revenue.

Agreed - and organizations that only care about the money often are tone deaf when it comes to some of their decisions, and inadvertently alienate some of their fan/ customer base. The NFL is desperate for new fans................

The NFL is desperate for new fans................ Per the Sports Business Journal on Nov. 9, 2023: "All told, NFL viewership is at an eight-year high with a per-game average of 17.2 million viewers -- up 7% year-over-year. That’s the highest since 2015 though nine weeks." A quick scan of some other articles says you're dead wrong, but keep to the narrative that is not based in facts. "Doesn't that say a lot about you? LMAO."

There is fierce competition for eyeballs, as there is so much more to choose from, but the NFL, and big time college football have a stranglehold on the sports viewing market. That is not changing any time soon.

I guarantee if the NFL is down in attendance/ viewership from their heyday and/or all time high, they certainly are not going to willingly share it. And sports publications are not going to report the whole truth - after all, why bite the hand that feeds you? No different than large corporations having more than one set of books, one for the investors, one for themselves. How many camera shots of NFL stadiums have you seen this past year, showing a full stadium? That used to be the norm.
All I know, is a lot of the people I interact with, as well as reading the comment sections at the end of articles I read, there are a lot of people that have passed on the NFL for a while now. And, for many different reasons. I sure hope that college sports can find a way to avoid some of the same issues, that pro sports have changed into. Money and power pretty much corrupts everything.

I only kind of support one NFL team. I don't go to their games and I only watch 75% of them on TV. Own very little apparel, and it was all gifts. Maybe I watch some playoffs and some of the Super Bowl. So it's not like I'm trying to defend the NFL, I'm just calling people out on their BS. To refute your claim that the NFL is desperate for fans, I'm citing TV viewership numbers that are widely reported by the carriers (networks + amazon) not the NFL. And a quick survey of publicly available info from a wide variety of trusted sources is that numbers are up this year. The highest they've been since 2015 and it's not all because Taylor Swift went to some Chiefs games, although that was a boost, especially for female viewers. Fortune: NFL regular-season games averaged 17.9 million viewers, tied for the second highest since averages were first tracked in 1995. Nielsen: In 2023, NFL games made up 93 of the top 100 rated broadcasts, with all top 20 spots going to NFL games. TV revenue is by and far the largest income stream for the NFL teams. And that business is booming because live sports are one of few appointment TV broadcasts left. And the NFL is the king of live sports. Ticket sales, concessions, are way towards the bottom of their revenue streams and I'd wager that many, if not all teams would remain profitable without one person in the stands. So your anecdotal observation of "I don't watch the NFL but I accidentally saw a not full stadium on TV" isn't a great barometer of desperation aka fan popularity. On the other hand...you have self-professed dislike for the NFL and you seek to confirm your opinion by the self-selected "people you interact with" and "reading the comments sections at the end of articles" (I'm actually cracking up as I repeat what you typed) from your self-selected news sources. A classic case of confirmation bias. We all know that the comments sections of online news articles are the REAL source of truth. /sarcasm

Having done some of the cursory research that you have done, I see the same stats you are looking at. What I did not realize until doing the research, was that the NFL, who had been in a nosedive in both attendance and viewership between 2015 and 2020, had started rebounding in 2021. Good for them. It helps when you stop with the self inflicted wounds. And yes, info we get from people in our inner circle and from other selected sources does not necessarily reflect the population as a whole. None of this changes the other points that myself and other posters have made, about stupid decisions, money, power, and hysteria surrounding certain individuals, etc. And I have a healthy skepticism regarding anything I see in the press anymore - no matter the outlet. "Believe nothing you hear, and only one half of what you see.” I think Poe had it right on that one. Cheers.

Just to set the record straight I got nothing against Taylor Swift. She can sel out every venue she performs at. Hope she continues with her success. But when I'm watching a football game I'd rather watch something football related, much like a Taylor swift fan would want to watch the concert and not a view of kelce ten times in his suite at herconcert. You're in luck. She has a concert in Japan and will be unlikely to make the Super Bowl.......although it's possible that she could make it by the end of the 2nd half, but she'd have to jump on the plane immediately after her show.

WTF... quit trying to refute baseless emotional diatribe with facts! Of course there must be a conspiracy that inflates the NFL's popularity as it doesn't conform to a certain confirmation bias...

I don't think they are showing her because of her political views. She happens to be one of the most famous people on the planet right now and she is pulling in a new demographic that previously didn't watch football. It's absurd to think that this is a political thing. It's all about $$ for the NFL. Absolutely. The NFL don't give a s%#t about anything but eyeballs and money. She is mega popular so of course they will show her. Ain't nobody gave a s%#t when Jack Nicholas was shown courtside of very Laker game. Every sport on earth is going to milk famous people watching. There is no conspiracy or political angle to the NFL and as such, the broadcast networks showing Swift at the games. The outrage campaign, however, is politically motivated.

I read that she is indeed planning on making the trip after her shows in Tokyo to Las Vegas to be at the Super Bowl to support Travis and the Chiefs ... and due to the time zone differences she will most likely be able to make it work: Due to the spin of the earth, the flight from Tokyo to here is shorter than the other way around. Trust me. I've done it too many times to count. So it won't be 12+ hours to Vegas.
What I haven't done is fly it in the style that Tay-Tay will be flying. So I get back kinda jet lagged and out of it for a bit. I'm sure she'll be fresh as roses for Kelce.

Yep... I see some media types trying to fabricate "outrage". What's new? In today's world the squeaky wheel is suddenly the vocal majority and in the vast number of instances it just isn't true. A world of click bait headlines and half truths. Simple fact is, that today you have to do a bit of research and digging to get a true perspective. Although some only "research" those ideas that confirm already held beliefs. Others are just plan lazy and believe whatever is put in front of them. But again, there is some crap that just doesn't register enough to care about...

I don't mind either way. I'm not watching for Taylor Swift and I won't swoon when they show her (not my type). But I won't be angered by it. She's a mega star dating one of the players in the superbowl. Of course, it's newsworthy in an Entertainment Tonight sort of way.
Beyond that, the rest is just crap. People trying to politicize it probably only because it's an election year and you have to remind the people in Blue or in Red why you have to love/hate Taylor. I think most people see it for the crap that it is.
What a world we live in now! Can you imagine politicizing A-Rod and J-Lo back in 2017? Nah. It's just celebrity talk.
