Coaches all over recruit a whole new team or good portions of one all the time now. And not sure where the 3-4 weeks came from. Kids can sign after the portal deadline for students entering it. You cannot contract recruits from May 1st to September. It is either a dead period or a quiet period between now and then. That is where the 3-4 weeks comes from. Tinkle has 3-4 weeks to figure out a plan. If things do not pan out in the next 3-4 weeks, Tinkle has to figure it out in September, because that is when the contact period reopens. Looking at the calendar there are "evaluatio" periods, and from reading up there apparently certain types of contact allowed as long as it's not direct in-person contact. Kinda convoluted. After some reading it seems a lot of the rules are designed to "protect" high school recruits. The question I have is, are the transfer kids and coaches subject to the same requirements or are they treated differently? I couldn't find that information.... I could readily find NCAA websites dealing with "NCAA RECRUITING RULES: WHEN CAN COLLEGE COACHES CONTACT HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES" and others explaining how existing college players can go about getting in the transfer portal, but none about actual what happens when the portal closes when it comes to continuing a search for a new school.

So there is a recruiting shutdown May 6-12 and a couple of dead periods a bit later. There can be recruiting the rest of the time and transfers will sign beyond your “3-4 weeks.” I’m just hoping Tinkle doesn’t think he can’t to anything til September.

Here is the schedule. There can be recruiting, but it is limited to a handful of very specific events. Recruits may take into May to make decisions, but recruiting basically shuts down until September 22 days from today.

It's ironic that Tinkle is returning to a level(kinda sorta) that he came from. You know what that means? Going dancing baby!

You don’t go dancing to the CBI, you sort of just mill around. I was thinking more like Tinkle dancing out the door after next season. Unfortunately unless there is some type super season what university is going to want him with his overall resume? Or where is he willing to go for a 50%+ pay cut? Unless I'm completely out of touch I do not see any university investing anything close to what OSU will owe him. So, unless Barnes gives him a heads up that he will be terminated and allows WT to find a job so he can go out on a "positive"... not seeing it change. OSU is not going to eat close to $6 mil unless donors pony up. The "catch 22" is rooting for the MBB to improve, have a decent record (almost a given in the WCC), and maybe draw 4k+ per game in Gill... BUT then having to read that WT has been a good coach all along but it was _____, _____, _____, _____, ______, ______, etc. that kept him from succeeding. Or in other words he was in over his head all along and as long as he is here MBB best not be in a P4 conference! I just hope some type of "watchable" roster is cobbled together. Maybe WT is out scouring for an assistant... a coach/Dad with talented son(s)?? Maybe a talented daughter too!

Yes, I think this player Exodus of Biblical proportions has just armed WT with the latest excuse for why we ended up in last place in the WCC while he collects a sizeable paycheck for the mediocrity. Assuming he can convince enough players to come here to field a team.....
Go Beavers!

Assuming he can convince enough players to come here to field a team..... Go Beavers! Although I do sort of agree, but we'd have to assemble a Oregon HS 6A roster to finish last in the WCC. Going on our most recent exodus then large portal additions I'm thinking it'll go more along the lines... > signing of some sub/bench guys with little real contributions, a JC type(s) with better stats but no good D1 offers due to ??, and maybe a very late signing or two... then the typical coach speak... > "...welcome to _____, _____, _____, _____, _____, _____, _____, etc. these guys truly fit our style and culture, I can't wait to get to work with these guys...." Following a decent season, 13-17 wins strongly dependent on another weak NC schedule) , mid-tier WCC finish... another exodus... > "... we had some pieces that just didn't fit... we lost our culture and need to get back to it..." Hoping for better than last time and that those still here making "HUGE" jumps this summer in their ability to contribute/play D1 level ball.

I’ll submit JB Bickerstaff to the pool. Just got ousted from Cleveland where he did the best he could with the tools available.

Besides, he'll find another NBA job (head coach or assistant) in a heartbeat. The good-ol boy network is very strong in that league.

I’m not expecting a lot from Tinkle this year but I would like to see some improvement. Hoping for the best as always though. Issue is, there’s no way Bickerstaff is around this time next year

You might as well wish for Coach K to come out of retirement and coach here. No way JB would even consider it.
