Beavs are 15.5 point underdogs to Utah tonight. Is that too much, or not enough? If this team still had Jarod Lucas and Glenn Taylor Jr, I'd like our chances a lot more, but they're gone, they took the money. Call them NIL Transfers. In 2024, and moving forward, the NIL Transfer portal threatens every Beaver sport, esp football and MBB. Jordan Pope is on deck. The transfer portal + NIL = kryptonite for Beaver sports. And yes, it's already effecting Beaver baseball and WBB too.Which WBB have we lost because of $$$$? Which baseball players have we lost because of $$$$? I know we didn't get a recruit/transfer or two because of NIL. I'm not aware of losing players because of it. Baseball literally just signed one of the top 3-4 Freshman to go to play college ball vs the $$$$ they would get from the MLB draft. I get (kind of) your thoughts regarding NIL and MBB/FB...but WBB and Baseball!? C'mon. Enjoy the 2023/2024 WBB and especially what we may have cooking in baseball for this year. Well, if we don't even have enough NIL dough to compete with Nevada and St. Johns we're screwed any way you slice it.

and we have a game tomorrow at Utah, 12-5/3-3. The team badly needs a spark. A road win tomorrow would be a nice one. A Utah win would be huge, but it is unlikely given previous results. A win in Boulder seems more probable. @ Utah, @ Colorado, and Arizona is arguably the hardest three-game-stretch on the schedule. Everything else is pretty easy sledding in comparison. |

So next year, when Pope and Tyler leave, it's gonna be: "Are we sure they took NIL money or did WT run them off?" Former OSU MBB coach Tim Shelton told Beaver Nation the truth. People just don't want to accept it. That's not what Shelton told Beaver Nation. He was upset that we didn't offer NIL for incoming recruits, which is different than NIL money for existing players. Pope is currently getting NIL money. Sure, he could probably get more elsewhere, but everyone stating for a fact that Pope and Tyler are definitely gone after the season, don't know what they're talking about. Lucas left because of the PTSD he had from that awful season with all of the idiot transfers. Yes, he got more money when he went to Nevada, but that was not the reason he left. Same for Taylor.....he wanted to go play for a better team. $$$ was not the driving factor. Our other supposedly good player from the awful 2021-2022 year was Dashawn Davis. He's at Mississippi St. and averaging a whopping 7 pts per game. These guys aren't leaving because of money...they're leaving because they want to play on a better team....although Dashawn was basically asked to leave by the staff due to his locker room issues. |

There's a little more in baseball, but not much, so it's completely different that MBB and Football and it should be, considering those are the two sports that make money for the schools. |

For whatever reason, the Mountain West teams seem to throw more money around for basketball. It would not surprise me that St. John's is able to throw around a lot more money than Oregon State, They are a Power Six program from New York, which does not have a football team. If Oregon State wants a good basketball team, they probably could manage it, if they allocated resources for it. But it does not seem to be a priority. I am curious how things play out next year in the WCC. |

We will probably never know for sure if or how much NIL the players are getting, but it exists and is apparently an issue at OSU as far as retention goes despite what the deniers say. Here's an article by Canzano, many of us have probably read, on NIL that talks about several people mentioned in this thread. I find it interesting Canzano mentions Smith is handling it fine. This was written before Smith bolted OSU and praised MSU's "resources", which may or may not include NIL. The Oregon ducks have the top payroll in all of CFB (and MBB too) which allows them to skim any recruit from the state of Oregon they want.
OSU is powerless to do anything and it is devastating for recruiting. Pritchard, Bittle, Shelstad, etc. This has a huge effect on local kids from the Beaver State. Again, it's not something Ralph and Jimmy had to worry about. Today is a different story.

Again, you are just throwing s%#t out there. You have no proof of that. Pritchard, Bittle and Shelstad all went to uo because they have a much better program. Pritchard went there before NIL was a thing. Bittle wouldn't have come here even if we were good. His dad is a huge duck honk and always has been. He would have never let his son go to OSU. |
