He better be at 7'2", but he only has 19 in 16 games, the same as KC. Yes, KC plays a lot more, but Chol is still mostly a liability on both ends other than the occasional shot block. I would like to see Ndong get his minutes going forward. I’m not a big Chol fan, but KC has played 312 minutes to Chol’s 192. Per game stat is very misleading. Yup, Sports Reference has Chol listed at 4.0 blocks per 40 minutes play this season. I'd venture that he alters more inside shots than he blocks. That's a valuable commodity to have on the bench. I don't consider him to be a full time player, but he does do some things, and actually seems to have been improving his ability to maintain control of the ball (which helps with rebounds and his offensive production) over the course of the season. Not saying he's great or going to be great, but if he hadn't had to deal eith yhe injuries during his career he could be a very interesting player. I don't think he's hit his ceiling, whatever that ceiling is.

Per KenPom, Chol blocks 12.3% of two-point attempts while he is on the court. Ibekwe is at 7.5%. Third on the team is Bilodeau at 1.9%. I'm excluding Marrs (5.4%) because of so few minutes. For perspective, Kelley was at 16.1% and 13.3% for his two years. That is why stats don't always tell the story. If you watch him, he plays very tentatively on both ends and the blocks don't make up for the numerous times he's out of position and giving up layups. I agree. He seems to look the wrong way when his length could help. But he does block shots.

Amazing... a 3 & 3 guy with 26 turns, 5 assists is now considered a vital piece that needs to stick around. I believe his minutes are due to his production? Would he get more PT if he actually produced? A career 2 &2 player! I guess if that's the best one can recruit... sure🤔 As stated, OSU has some young bigs that need time. Ndong and Marrs need every minute that Chol gets and more. If not, there is more than Pope & others that may consider leaving. I think at this point Ndong deserves more minutes than he's been given some games. Some games he's getting what I consider to be an appropriate amount of minutes. Marrs should probably see a few minutes every game, he's still a couple years off as a regular 15-20+ minute player in my mind, largely to do with his lack of experience because of injuries most of his high school career, a litte more beef on him would help, I think that's coming. I think he has a ton of potential. In my ideal world we have a whizz-kid center come in and they are the 3 and 4 spot players after Bilodeau and Rataj leave.

Some on this board point out that we have a roster in which everyone has more eligibility after this year and so there isn't room for more recruits. Years ago Ralph Miller had rosters that had more eligibility but somehow someway was able to convince certain players that it might be better to play elsewhere. In fact it happens throughout college basketball. Ruthless maybe. But it's part of today's game.

So here's what I think lost the game, in regulation play, last night.
Not to focus on one player, it was a team deal that has been an issue at times this season....
Turnovers, often the result of double-teams, and the other kids not helping out. Turnovers happen, but I dislike sloppy passing and I dislike having players seemingly not realize the ball handler (or inbounder as well) stuck with the ball with nobody to throw it to. There were 4-6 of those last night that directly led to Stanford baskets.
Part of that is coaching, part of that is relying largely on first and second year players. I'm hoping it improves.

In fact it happens throughout college basketball. Ruthless maybe. But it's part of today's game. I think if we had conference stability this year it really could have been different. Until the last 2 weeks or so we didn't even know who we'd be playing next year. Recruiting to a "weak" team on top of that would make it very hard to even get a look from talented kids. I'm thinking if that Maurer kid from Southern Oregon hadn't followed the path of going from a private Christian high school to a private Christian college and wanted to commit here, Tinkle would have jumped at the opportunity. I could be wrong, but I have my doubts that I am wrong on this. When I talk about recruiting slots being potentially full, I don't mean ignore recruiting altogether. Always look for upgrades, and by most accounts Tinkle was in on Maurer. This was/is a very tough year to upgrade by recruiting. I suspect we could see some portal action, both ways, after the season ends. He's got something to talk about with recruits now, we have both a conference and a potential road to the tournaments... we really didn't have that earlier.

Sure what league we are in or will be affiliated with might have an impact on recruiting but come on is that the new excuse? We have been affiliated with the pac12 for the first 9 years of Wayne's tenure and other than his son and the Thompsons and throw in Eubanks who else has he recruited of any notoriety?

We were affiliated with absolutely ZERO conferences for the 2024 and 2025 seasons until recently. His last 2 classes have actually been quite interesting.

That's a tough argument. This is an exaggeration, but it's like saying of the Big Red Machine of the mid 70's - other than Morgan, Bench, Perez, Foster, and Rose, who else did they have? Edit: I'll answer though. Jared Lucus, Kylor Kelley, Warith Alatishe

Wonderful. As I mentioned other than the four players i mentioned who else has wayne recruited prior to the pac12 blowing up? I'm looking at just high school recruits for this answer. Uh, Pope for one. I also think Bilodeau and Rataj could start on most Pac-12 teams, if not this year, by next. I'm thinking Ndong could be quite a player in 2 years, and we've got some others with potential to be very good players in the future (Marrs, Lake, etc) and I'm thinking Ibekwe is continuing to improve and will be a very solid player for us. Today is not tomorrow. We also have players he successfully recruited here that are playing international Pro ball, nothing to sneer at. The last 2 classes have set this team up for a potentially solid future. Whether he can keep them together or not has yet to be seen. I'm hoping they stick around and continue to improve. Edit: Among the players that transferred out who've done well, Warren Washington is on like team number 4 now and will quite probably play pro somewhere at some point. Tinkle recruited him, first, he just has never stuck with anyone but did make the All Pac-12 defensive team last year. It'll be curious to see if Taylor Jr. ever really pans out or not.

WT was rewarded for the greatest season in OSU MBB history last 50 years. If you're Barnes, would you rather reward a coach for that or hire the next Jimmy, Eddie, Ritchie, John, Robby and WT and have that bad hire on your OSU resume? Extend and live to fight another day. What AD wants to hang a bad hire on their professional body of work? Then everybody here can blame him for it. Barnes hired CJS, Canham, Bray and finished the Reser west side. Why muck that up? 60 years at this point.
