The talk is about a three conference merger (really more of an alliance than a merger).
The Pac-12 teams would not have to travel to the East Coast or anything like that.
MHver3 has been pushing this idea for a while now. It's based on what he says a source is telling him that there is a benefactor that is willing to help make this happen.
I have no idea if there's anything to it at all. Pretty sure it would be a positive for the Pac-2 if true, though.

OSU has a scheduling alliance now that brings in zero dollars, and supposedly is costing us $. So, unless this is a media push with their $$ being added (not sure why OSU/WSU would suddenly merit this now?) how is it a benefit without a $30 mil+ incentive?? Plus neither of those conferences have any specific ties nor allegiances toward OSU/WSU, so is it sympathy? I'm glad I do not read blogs or such pod cast BS. Go Beavs |

Love it!
Personally, I think a Pac2-Big12-ACC merger makes the most sense all around. Right now I think everyone agrees that each conference has fallen way behind the big two. This way we have the numbers. And give FSU and Clemson the larger shares of revenue. We should at least be able to get close to what we were making in the pac12.
IMO everyone wins.

I think that would be Arizona, ASU, Utah, Cal, Stanford (if willing). My guess is Colorado would stay in the Big 12 and the Pac-12 gets someone else from that conference. |

If the "fantasy" benefactor exists, has the pull to convince said schools/conferences, it would mean OSU, WSU, Cal, Furd, Zona ASU, Utah, BYU (just tossing out possibilities) are enough for an NCAA conference... which means it would have to have a separate or related media deal that pays equal to what the other (6) are being promised. And, depending on the payout OSU/WSU made to the MWC scheduling alliance, it would be for '25 season at the soonest... and mean the ACC/B12 is allowing teams to leave?? That would be pretty lame on the ACC's part if they are trying to win the FSU lawsuit.
Just not seeing all those obstacle being overcome let alone the impetus for said move. I mean unless there is suddenly a LOT of unrest among the former Pac12 schools and some leverage to drop out of their current agreements... anyway, just seems to be A LOT to have happen with no real reason for it to?!

Well, OSU and WSU's scheduling alliances pretty much saved the Pac-2 for the next two years. So I'm all for an alliance if it proves beneficial. |

IIRC, the media deal would be an umbrella one that is enabled by the benefactor (therefore, the alliance part of the equation).
The impact of losing teams would be alleviated because of this. There would be no need for the Big 12 to keep those teams under the Big 12 banner.
I believe there would most likely be some extra financial incentives involved for the Big 12 as well.
In general, the Big 12 could very well see something like this alliance as an advantage during a time of uncertainty in college football that includes the Big Ten and SEC moving to separate themselves from the pack.
Also, there has been recent talk of the ACC actually trying to pluck certain teams from the Big 12. Whether or not that is true, who knows? But I would expect both the ACC and the Pac-2 to be very aggressive in the future as far as trying to get any kind of leg up on the Big 12. This sort of alliance would alleviate that.

Those who have been begging for alliances the last several months have me shaking my head at times. that was my thought also. Then I wondered if the mysterious benefactor is apple. It's a nice thought but I think the acc & b12 have existing contracts with fox, ESPN and probably some minor players. Anyway, good message board material. |

The fantasy bloggers have been pointing to TKO/Endeavor Group (owners of WWE & UFC). There's already a bit of a partnership already between the B12 and TKO/WWE.
