Sounds like this is true, MHver3 rebutted something like this a few minutes ago on Twitter.
“ Oh the things I wish I could share today… lots of maneuvering happening to try to position Pac2 to get AQ status back in the event of a merger/backfill.”

The talk is about a three conference merger (really more of an alliance than a merger). The Pac-12 teams would not have to travel to the East Coast or anything like that. MHver3 has been pushing this idea for a while now. It's based on what he says a source is telling him that there is a benefactor that is willing to help make this happen. I have no idea if there's anything to it at all. Pretty sure it would be a positive for the Pac-2 if true, though. Unfortunately there is no benefactor that can make anything like this happen unless it is a combo of media companies. Too many teams, too many contract issues with media in for the $. So, unless at least two media companies are the benefactors and putting in more money... or multiple other schools are willing to give up some... or OSU is will to go "SMU" and get little/nothing I'm not seeing how it is even remotely possible. OSU has a scheduling alliance now that brings in zero dollars, and supposedly is costing us $. So, unless this is a media push with their $$ being added (not sure why OSU/WSU would suddenly merit this now?) how is it a benefit without a $30 mil+ incentive?? Plus neither of those conferences have any specific ties nor allegiances toward OSU/WSU, so is it sympathy? I'm glad I do not read blogs or such pod cast BS. Go Beavs Oregon State has a scheduling alliance now that gives Oregon State about $9 million plus media (if everything works out right) for $14 million. All told, Oregon State should be able to net several million on the deal. It is possible that the Beavs may take a bath on the whole deal. But you could make up on that in a great bowl game, if Oregon State and Wazzu are able to keep the Holiday and Las Vegas Bowls as bowl destinations.

Apparently WSU's Shulz has held up the decision on the CFP model going to 5-7 or 6-6. This could be due to a few reasons but nothing is off the table at this point. The 5-7 model would give OSU/WSU a better shot at getting into the playoffs in the next year/two. The 6-6 model would allow an AQ for the G5's top team. It also could enable the three-conference alliance that is discussed in this thread to have AQs for each conference. I think. And there's a bunch of additional working parts.

Yep, OSU and WSU are going to wait until the last possible second to hope to scoop up as many power-5 tier teams as the can OR Work every possible angle to join one of the P4. I think we all agree if we end up taking on the entirety of the MWC, it was not by choice. Hell I would guess it would be our preference to only take four teams if we were rebuilding (SDSU, Fresno, Boise, UNLV). I think we would possible consider taking 6 of the current MWC but I think we we are looking at more than that... things have absolutely not gone in our favor.
