Michigan State has 3 quarterbacks - 4 stars Katin Houser and Sam Leavitt, and 3 star Noah Kim. All 3 have announced they're entering the portal. Houser and Leavitt each have 3 years of eligibility left (Leavitt might have 4; I'm not sure), so they were the future.
Some might see this as meaning Chiles could be Michigan bound, but there's an old saw he has no doubt heard - Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
May the hits keep on coming.

This may be a hit to Smith, or maybe he didn't really want them. There will be literally a 100 plus QBs available in the portal.

Did the MSU QBs leave because they heard ahead of Smith's arrival in East L that he is a lying fraud??? Who knows?? But at least consider this...there must have been at least SOME individual contacts between MSU and OSU players since all this started. And football players may be dumb but they're not stupid--I'm sure MSU players can read the handwriting on the wall as well as anyone else. |

Sam Leavitt, a 4* QB from West Linn I believe, wasn't offered by Smith and felt disrespected. He hit the portal as soon as he heard the news.

Houser was one of our top QB targets in the 2022 class. He committed to Boise over us then switched to MSU a month after they offered.

Smith can recruit them back to MSU if he wants to, and their NIL deals could be sweetened to salve any wounds. For example, see Rome Odunze at UW.
Or MSU can go out to the portal.

I think you are exactly right. With over 100 QB's in the portal and with the list growing there must be one or two good ones. |

Leavitt looks like he has a legitimate reason (in his mind, at the very least) to bail....
The other two might just be creating a situation in which they have some leverage and visibility while they negotiate new deals with their new coach and NIL consortiums.
Sigh. It's a brave new world.

I just find great humor thinking that all 3 QB's left MSU because JS did a Deion and told them he was bringing his own luggage. I'm fairly confident that JS believes Chiles will follow him to East Lansing. I will chuckle if Chiles leaves OSU and does not go to MSU. I will laugh my ever laughing ass off if he stays in Corvallis.

There was no time for JS to evaluate or meet players. Hence, they left due to him being hired. There was no "Sanders" meetings. The WL kid posted as much. One other was recruited by Smith, and didn't come so why stay there?! Players do talk. Social media makes it instantaneous with players' contact info posted on roster sites. But, some see a coaching change as a great excuse to simply get out of a school/location they don't like. Get a fresh start. I really don't give a flying eff about anything MSU. Didn't before, don't now. And, as with recruiting, the overall portal scene is BS too. Let me know who signs/stays because they want be at OSU. Those are the only kids I care about. Go Beavs |

I wouldn't be too quick to write off Chiles. If DJ leaves, he is on track to be a 3 year starter. Lots of variables, I know, and much information to which I'm not privy. But I am heartened by the fact that, 4 days after the betrayal, I have not yet been made aware of any post on social media by any player on our team announcing he was leaving.

I hope only a two year starter. I want him to be good enough to be an early declare and a 1st round draft pick. |
